Guest Big-Banana
Hey all, After last weeks success at the mountain we kept our eye on the weather forecast all week, actually come to think of it, I was on the BOM/Seabreeze website more often than I was actually doing my job rofl Plan was to not fish the morning and instead fish the late afternoon hot bite, tides coincided with our favourite fishing time and all looked pretty promising. That matched with a good temp break right near Browns, we were pretty confident. Spent last night, tying and retying doubles and doing all the required odd jobs. Finally finished at around 1:30am and off to get some shut eye before the big day. Up at 7:30am, quick phone call to my fishing partner and made the required formal arrangements. Met him at his place and packed the boat, and off we went to Penrhyn Road. Arrived at the ramp at 11:30am, logged in with Coastguard and pointed the nose to Browns. We trolled from around 15km from Browns with a spread of skirts for not a touch. Whilst conditions weren't what we expected, we love a bit of chop and his Trailcraft ate it up. We persisted, and while it did take a little longer, we got to Browns and set the trail at around 1:15pm. We arrived to an absolute car park! Never mind, they'll all be gone shortly We cubed, cubed and cubed for no observers, not yet anyways. A slight relocation and we got stuck in again, then in happened... A screaming run on 24kg and we were tight on what felt like a good fish, but nothing too spectacular. Then the thing woke up!!! It's second run was absolutely blistering and the temptation to lock up and show the fish whose boss was very very true. By now though we'd been in battle for a good 15 minutes and tiredness/cramp began to set in. On goes the kidney harness and bucket and a much more comfortable fight continued. 25 minutes from battle commencement and we had our first view of the fish, one word, SOLID! Usually we'd hit panic stations, but we stayed cool, nailed the gaff shot, wrapped on a tail rope and on he came, woooooooooo hooooooooooo! Hi 5's, some pats on the back and some well earned rest! Estimated at around 45kgs to 50kgs. We'd continued the cube trail during the fight, however couldn't coax any more fish, they would've been released anyways. Fished on for another 15 minutes, by now there was only a handful of boats surrounding Browns, and we decided to try and cover as much ground before darkness set in. As usual we dropped some lures in whilst the clean up commenced, nailed a few Striped Tuna and decided to come in as the wind had come up to around 20 knots with some crappy looking wind chop. Whilst a slow trip home and at times wet, we managed good time and logged off from Coastguard. Loaded the boat and shot off home to weigh the fish and have a cold drink. He pulled the scales down to 51.5kg and the girth of the fish was unreal. A day to remember! Some more pics. Some more pics. Some more pics. Guest Big-Banana
Well done boys.I've got a 520 Centre console Trailcraft which I'm thinking of going out in,on a good day. What size is yours? Cheers Mark. You'd get bloody wet in it! Without a good canopy the trailcrafts aren't notoriously dry boats! It's a 5.4m I think, although not 100% sure, it's not my boat
