smokinjoe Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 Gday all just with all the happenings going on with the YTF at the moment, i thought it might be wise to inform you of " Etiquette on the Mount " Fortunately over the last couple of weeks it seems quite a few vessels have headed to the mount in search of YFT and some skippers have had no idea whats goes on, so please: Dont steer into someones burley trail, in other words stay well clear of the back of a boat, if u see a boat sitting there they may well be sharking and youll cop more than a spray from them. Dont park in someones Burley Trail DONT pull up and start fishing next to another boat, its not Molineaux Pt If a boat is running a spread for gods sake dont cross the back of the boat. Last but not least respect the radio and dont use it for abuse. Sorry but needed to say something about the issue, have seen to many boats pull up behind respected boats and start fishing, not on!
slinkymalinky Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 I haven't been out there but it's a sad fact of life no matter where or how you're fishing that there are always going to be some who just don't get with the programme. Sometimes it's due to innocent lack of knowledge and experience, sometimes it's due to a lack of respect and courtesy, and sometimes it's plain old greed. You see the pattern repeated everywhere. On a bottom fishing trip there's always some people who will try to crowd you if you're catching fish because they seem to think that magically, the fish are all on 'your side of the boat'. On a snapper reef if people see bent rods, you'll soon have a crowd around you. At North Head, it's chaos on a weekend when the salmon schools are about. etc, etc, etc. There's just no telling some people but good on you for trying. It's all we can do. I certainly feel like it's best to be polite about it rather than hurling abuse immediately. For those who make an innocent mistake it's a much better way to educate them and it saves spoiling everyones day. Cheers, Slinky
Guest Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 Its just a matter of common sense,we fished with Billfisher last Friday and we gave Glenn the respect he justly deserves and went wide of his vessel and we were in need of a little security being so far out. We had Fin in our trail and rightly asked fellow Raiders and Billfisher to jump right beside us and have some fun with us. They had an instant double hookup and we all had a great time and thats what fishing should be about Treat others how you would like to be treated and all will be good in the fishing gods eyes Cheers Stewy
wonniefisho Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 Its just like on the beach, a million miles of sand and some moron and their half a dozen ankle biters have to sit within peeing distance of you
smokinjoe Posted June 2, 2008 Author Posted June 2, 2008 Stewy unfortunately theres not much common in sense lol. I understand that some boats follow others out etc but usually it is pre arranged, in the case with you im sure you would have informed glenn of your intentions. Ask him what happened the other day if he remembers. If you wish to fish next to a boat at least contact them by radio on a calling channel then go to a working channel and talk as much crap as you like. Slinky thats why i never go on a bottom bash charter! We have to start somewhere, M8 i seriously go fishing sometimes eg take the harbour, picture this... the kingies are on you head towards the cakes and there are 941 thousand boats all fishing within handshakes distance, i honestly feel sorry for the first bloke that was there! Dont even wanna start on Trevally Alley, 22 boats on top of each other the best ive seen. The Harbour and the ocean are bloody big expanses of water and thats only whats on top, so why pull up next to someone? arent they out there to for a bit of peace and quiet and maybe a feed. Yes we all must think would we like it done to us?
Guest Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 Everyone has had things happen to them on the water if you fish regularly. Its just a matter if you decide to take it further and to what point does it achieve ? NOTHING We all fish on the water and want to have a good time at our sport. There are always certain people and we never ever mention names or boats on this forum that regularly have troubles with others on the water or at ramps. No one owns the water and it should be shared with everyone. Certain spots are sometimes crowded because the fish congregate at these spots and everyone knows it. You just have to blend in and give the others some space and it doesnt just happen on the wide blue yonder,it happens on the rocks, beaches and wharves as well. Be courteous and the anglers that are there first might just invite you over to have a fish in good company and you may even make some new friends instead of enemies This sort of stuff has been going on for as long as I have been fishing and thats around 40 odd years and all the bitching and whinging and jumping up and down will never fix the problems for some. Just be the best you can be on the water and hopefully you will be treated with the respect you deserve by others. Cheers Stewy
Aero Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 A couple of things I will add, In the middle of YFT season, when you can see 100 odd boats over the mountain you cant expect to start a shark trail on the mountain and not have it crossed or disrupted by people that simply dont know better. its not a perfect world, especially on weekends. Also, the fact that you own a 30+ foot boat, does not give you any authority or privileges over smaller vessels, like stewy said, no one owns the water and the smaller vessel has the same right to be there as a bigger vessel, be it cubing or trolling. Chris
Penguin Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 (edited) When other boats see us catching fish and decide to anchor right on top or beside us , I dont get mad I get even - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - I just get more detrmined and fish harder, and luv pulling them Kings out from under their boat, and i make sure the whole Bay or Harbour hears us cheering as the fish are netted. Most people then feel inferior and pull up anchor and leave red faced This was the case at our last Kingy social where we were constantly pushing a boat away from our boat bcoz they pulled up so close. I dont stress about it I just learn to still have fun and hold no grudges. Im out there to relax, not stress, stress is for work. And as far as Browns is concernred, who would want to pull up next to 50 other boats anyway, 3 kms away in my own patch will do me just fine. Wat are the chances of finding a hungry fish in amongst 50 other berley trails. Enjoy the water penguin Edited June 3, 2008 by penguin

It must have been removed Chris ,I will do the right thing and leave this open for a while to get other peoples thoughts. If it gets out of hand it will be closed. Cheers Stewy

Chris I you have ever been at the car park, off Port Stephens, you will quickly remember that the bigger DO in fact, charge around backwards 'hooked up' and many do not care who is in the way. You have to have your wits about you, and prepared to move very quickly, even though you have a fish on as well. dale
Le Pasha Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Dont even talk about the carpark especially interclub time lol!!! Its like browns on a busy day ten fold but there are boats backing up left right and centre. With so many boats drifting live baits 10 metres away from each other dont be surprised if your marlin pops up on the other side of the boat next ya lol It is frustrating but sometimes thats how it is Daniel

The big ones will troll straight at you on across your bow , and it is the little boats that MUST give way!!!!!! They certainly feel that they MORE right to the fish/ fishing spot, than the 'little' boats. That's how it shouldn't be! dale
Aero Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 (edited) It happens all the time up at port, etiquette is out the window. Fishing out of a little 5.6m tin can you often get bullied around by larger vessels. In previous years we used to allow this to happen, but being forced off the bait time after time just got too much. We just stand our ground now, maintain course and stay with the bait. We also figured that chances are our alloy bow sprite would make a lasting impression on glass and gel coat. Chris P.S - I do feel that if a boat is hooked up, regardless of proximity to you, you do you best to get out of the way. Most boats we've hooked up around have shown us this general courtesy, though I will place the emphasis on MOST. Edited June 3, 2008 by Aero

You and Rob dominate us big boats anyway when it comes to taggin beaks haha. Have seen Rob's 'etiquette' towards the big boats on the videos lol, very nice.... Daniel
smokinjoe Posted June 4, 2008 Author Posted June 4, 2008 (edited) Aero i removed it myself after 2nd thought all good! Hey at least the carpark wasnt to bad this year lol! Edited June 4, 2008 by smokinjoe
Steve07 Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 You gotta love fishing weekdays, you cant beat it i reckon .Its much more quiet & peaceful, which means much better fishing. But if you have to fish weekends then nothing better than finding your own quiet spot & pulling a nice bag of fish. Many times this season ive fished for either bream, kings or yellowfin & got amongst them with not another boat in sight. I agree that it can make you very upset & ruin a good day out when someone crowds your space, its happened to me many times & seen it happen to many others, but like Stewy said its been happening for as long as ive been fishing, around 35years,& will continue to happen for just as long, especially at any well known hotspot.I fish to relax, enjoy it & catch a few to feed the family, not to stress out, that's what fishing is all about & the reason it makes us addicted. Get out there this weekend, enjoy it & get some nice fish, remember fishin will always beat workin. cheers Nexus
stylo Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Doesn't happen just on the water .. happens on land too. A young chap come up and ask me if I had caught anything and then proceeded to unload his gear right next to me. There was a lot of room. I tried to be courteous and asked him if he could not see that I was right there and he was casting into my burley trail .. he just looked dumbfounded. I gave him a semi lecture and that was that. Some people just don't know. The others just don't care.
Le Pasha Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 The other thing that people need to realise is that not every YFT is sitting right on top of Browns!!! There are other places to fish lol!! We have always caught more fish away from the mosh rather than in it...
