Lasty Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 Do people thaink that hook colour makes any difference? I was shopping this morning (as you do when the weather is crap) and noticed that there seems to be a lot more red hooks around these days
jewgaffer Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 Hi Lasty As to hook colour, it has been tested and proved that hooks in the colour red become less visible underwater to fish. Apparently hooks in the colour red is the first colour to literally disappear, followed by black nickel hooks, I believe. The colour red in textured lines like braid has become popular for the same reason and most U.S. Spectre braid manufacturers have added red to their colour range. Moss green is the the colour I use which is made by Power Pro, a U.S. Manufacturer who nowadays make their Spectre Braid in red as well. Cheers jewgaffer

It doesnt occur untill you are down a bit deep hence a lot of deep living fish have a red colour whereas estuary fish are rarely red as the colour doesnt disappear when you are close to the surface. On the hooks I am putting last weeks disappointment on the blackies down to a change from green hooks to black. LOL Dave
Lasty Posted June 8, 2008 Author Posted June 8, 2008 I had heard that about red disappearing in water, but it is the opposite of putting red beads and tubing on the line when chasing whiting. Although you usually get whiting in much shallower water.
shefford Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 Hmm the majority of my hooks are all silver noooooooo Well I guess ill try hide them better
