Hi guys

Wendy & I got 'toey' at being housebound, so we took a chance of going out in the yaks yesterday afternoon! The skies were black to the east but sunny to the west, so we ducked out to find some weed & perhaps some fish!

The weather looked 'dodgey' but the thunder & lightening was heading towards the beaches - later we heard that there was a good dumping of hail at TUncurry!! My neighbour was golfing at the time!! :(

We got a couple of handfuls of weed & headed towards shore, to try for some flatties in the shallows. THere were a few with jetties near the ramp, so I started tossing a chubby around the jetties & boats - caught the bird netting on one jetty, a rope on another, then a rose bush!! Had to exit the yak to extricate that one! :( I am sure the nieghbours were wondering what I was up to! :1prop: Bloody wind!!! You could barely control your cast! I had a hit on one jetty but missed it. Then I saw a biggish boat that obviously hadn't been taken out for a while ..... growth all over the hull in the water ...... and thought .... hmmm, they all say to cast to the dirtiest boat in the marina, so chucked the chubby towards the bow & gave it a small jerk. I felt a tap & a take, but missed it! :1badmood: Jerked it again, tapped again & missed it again!! :1badmood:

This fish must have been really hungry, as I jerked it again, it had another go & another go till it finally got it in it's mouth!!:yahoo: Took him a while to realise he was hooked, then gave a spirited account of itself & I got it to the yak. Took some pics & put him back.

By this time, I was looking around for Wendy & was surprised to hear a shout from behind me! She had packed up & brought the car around to a park & said - it's blowing a gale out there! So we pulled my yak out then & there & headed home. We were hoping to meet up this morning for another go!

Once again, big winds were predicted & when Keith said he wanted to go to Nine Mile for a run at 7am, I figured I may as well go & fish the jetties near the co-op, with all my winter woolies on, including WOnderscarf!!! Glad I did, too!! Bitterly cold & big winds!

After about 40min, I hooked into a terrific fish, just as another local arrived for a fish there too! I was using a really long rod (13ft) & found it awkward from the jetty .... had difficulty getting the net to the fish & by the time I had both the fish & net lined up, it got off!! :1badmood: It was a particularly nice fish in top condition!! Two minutes later, I dropped another good one! Grrrrrr! An hour went by before I got my next opportunity at netting practise & finally landed this one, which I later gave to my neighbour!

Hi SLinky

Its the Optio WP30 - waterproof to 5m from memory. Accidentally dunked my last one, so got this one, to be sure to be sure!! :) Takes great daytime shots, but the flash shots seem to take ages to go off!! Ne'er mind, I don't often fish at night :1prop:

It takes terrific macro shots & the video is good too. You can use it as a voice recorder too, if needed. It has all sorts of different modes & you can override some bits too! I need to read the book again!

All 3 pics were cropped, too :)

mite b a stupid question? but how come the blackfish is cut from the head down?

Makes the fish more manageable, and is another way to bleed them (as opposed to slicing across gillcage)

Roberta! You've changed lure color. How do you find this color compared to your little favourite? Gee that blackie is in prime condition.

Terrific photo of the breambo, mate! Btw, how did you go with your sojourn into the weird and wonderful world of mobiles? :1prop:

hehehe You noticed, Hodgey!!! They are just so good, eh?? A buddy gave me that one & I just had to try it out! :) It is not quite my favourite yet ..... but soon could be! :1prop: Don't know the colour name tho. I have actually bought a couple of chubby 'lookalikes' as well by Hawk - & have caught a small bream on the gold bellied one! :) They are 1/3 the price!

Some nice blackies entering the system just now - hope to try again tomorrow :)

Still trolling thru the options with the mobiles -I guess for Keith, I should go NextG for better rural coveage for when we travel. Gee I hate making decisions like that - if only it was fishing gear ..... much easier to choose!! :biggrin2:

Hi Diver - my hands get cut less by their sharp spines, by doing it that way :)

It's good to see you releasing bream as everyone that's put back counts. They'll be back bigger and meaner next time you get them, also they'll reproduce and give us more bream to play with.

Nice result Roberta'!!

Boy oh boy with the weather driving so many fish up from the Seal Rocks area, the bechmark for the coast, I reckon you'll have more fish than ever going into the lake and up the river this year and some real good fishing will be had.

You won't be able to judge these Turtlebacks on their own merits Roberta, I think it will be a false positive, because with the masses of fish coming up from Seal Rocks and Myall being as it is, there'll be that many fish up there in Forster and Tuncurry, that I reckon that even your wooden floats will quickly disappear at high speed. :1yikes:

It will be all good up there this winter

Cheers
