squid hunter Posted June 15, 2008 Posted June 15, 2008 (edited) Gday Raiders, The names squid hunter, i'm new to fishraider. Its good to be here They dont call me squid hunter for nothing, they are my speciality Ive travelled all along the NSW coastline with me trusty carvan and boat (when i can get the time off building) and ive caught a load of squid My lastest adventure was last thursday on sydney harbour. It was a beautiful day, so i decided to call me boss and tell him id pulled a muscle in me arm from carrying so many bricks on wednesday at the site. This was too gooda day to miss I came up with these babies: And yes they tasted amazing... accompanied with a VB of course Keep a look out for more of my posts Regards Squid Hunter Edited June 15, 2008 by squid_hunter

Welcome to Fish raider and I hope you catch lots of squid down here too! mate, the Harbour is a wonderful place and so is botany when you get a chance to wonder south a little further. Winter time is a time for the larger ones and depending on the rain will depend which location you will find them Once again, welcome and its great to see Squid Hunters on fishraider! Its an art

squid hunter Posted June 15, 2008 Author Posted June 15, 2008 Squidboy, Its good to see i have a fellow hunting mate, it is indeed a great art to master personally ive never had too much success in botany bay, ive been on several trips for little squid (mainly for live baits) and the bigger boys for lunch, but yea nothing. I can only remember the one time in which a squid was holdin on to my live yakka on the way up, it was gone before i had a chance to do anything about it. Wasnt so alive anymore From hunter to hunter , any spots in the bay worth a shot? Regards Squid Hunter
jewgaffer Posted June 15, 2008 Posted June 15, 2008 Hi Squid Hunter If you can get yourself up to the Hacking, I reckon you'll get onto some good calamari squid at night during the run out tide. They start to appear when the run out starts but about 3 hours down from the top to low tide usually works the best, with glow bait plus a chemical light if you wish, but by the sound of it you'd know what's best on the night. You're sure to see other squid fishermen on the wharfs up there at night. Cheers jewgaffer
squidboy Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 Mate, Their aint too many secrets down there. But let me remind you, BIG jigs, at least a 3.0g and must be right on the bottom. Try the end of the container wall as well as the beach area. Followed by the island, you cant go wrong, but you can loose jigs. Tight lines, maybe you will see me out there one day.
Bully Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 great work ! i love a good ceph.. lets open up here so we can all enjoy a squid or two during the winter. im aware of regular hunting grounds in the habour, shack bay, camp cove, abbotsford wharf.. does this change in the winter. where are the best spots in and around the harbour during winter to land a decent squid.. do you just stick to the traditional spots ?? please do tell
squidboy Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 Heard of all those spots, but to be honest, without a boat, your not going to get your quota unless its every blue moon. You really hve to work for squid over the winter. They will not be in big schools, but they will be bigger ones. try around Cliffton, Spit as well as Good old Balmoral. Mind you when fishing places like the spit aviod the four hundred raiders flying around in petrol motors. Stick with a quiet electric and spots with light and darkness. Squid normally hide in the dark and attack something when it comes to light. Once again, don't expect to bag out on the one spot, keep moving!!! This also will give some grounds a break from over fishing. Anyway, if anyone can help me on some good Jew advice, I will be able to give plenty of squidding tips too, to land them or even provide a couple to go for a jew session. Still interested in finding different spots and different techniques. Squidboy
