jewgaffer Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 (edited) Hi Everyone. I hope some of you have a chance of having a session in an estuary and especially up river on Wednesday. The way the weather looks it makes for ideal conditions for fish to liven up and binge feed after only spasmodic action in the usual places over the last week or so. In my opinion, the bite with the sudden change to N/E-E is likely to be vigorous and ongoing at the peak of both feeding tides. There is another cold front on the way and fish have to stock up on whatever they can get to allow for the fact that, in adverse conditione fish hold deep or under shore structure with enough water above them and species in progression, and in extreme conditions are unable to digest their food. The forecast temperature rise for Wednesday is a good one. Although it will only be a degree or so warmer than today, it still has to overcome a natural overnight drop coming off a week of cold conditions, so rather than drop further had the southerly continued, when you look at it, it is a substantial rise, particularly remembering that a river is affected by air temperature and moreso overnight. The run in tide brings in more of the higher sea surface temperature. If you put it all together this Wednesday whilst still being in the heart of winter is the best day so far for winter fish and naturally the best day so far for winter fishing. The southerly wind is due to end on Tuesday night but it appears it will start to gust slightly into an easterly direction and come in earlier. Perhaps late on Tuesday afternoon the winds going into a north/east direction will be more apparent and the wind will be only moderate. I believe Wednesday will be cloudy as occasional showers are predicted which should only liven up the action. The slight breeze with still give plenty of shelter and will only amount to a trickle of breeze which will be just right because that will ensure there will be a nice ripple in the water. There's nothing much worse in Botany Bay for example than finding clear water in the best spots in close. These types of days have always been good for fishing in close and first drop offs of a few before a channel have always fished well for predators. To those members who can get out for a fish on Wednesday, I wish you all the very best. Unfortunately I can't go as I have to have an operation on both hands, due to mild carpel tunnel being brought out to severe due to fishing in cold nights last year, and tomorrow I have to see the surgeon and my own doctor on Wednesday regarding the waiting list for this type of operation. Cheers jewgaffer Byron, This is great info and more of the same would be great for Raiders to organise an outing on short notice. Mate thats bad news about your hands and I know what you are feeling for I get severe pain in the hands when it gets very cold. Hope you dont have to wait long for the operation..... you will be out of action for awhile I guess but after the op your hands will be fine to hold that rod and land the big jews. All the best. Marcel and RAY.
arpie Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 Hi Byron Great to hear the weather should clear ..... can't wait! Sad to hear you are in for the chop ..... on your hands! One hand out of action would be bad enough, but BOTH!! I won't even ask about how you will clean your teeth or other questions of a more personal nature!! Suffice it to say, you will be heavily relying on your other half for MANY things!!! All the best, Mate!!! See ya when we see ya Roberta
yting Posted June 18, 2008 Posted June 18, 2008 I bet it was all those Jewies that did your hands in.

Cheers jewgaffer Byron, Any ideas for Saturday ? I will be picking the boat up from Huey and thought perhaps explore around the rail bridge, never having fished there before. Or possibly go to my usual spots around Brisbane Waters or Broken Bay from somewhere closer to home (Copacabana) where I at least know where baitfish, fish, holes, depths etc are. Wish you all the best for your upcoming operation, perhaps while you are recuperating we can still get you out landbased where you can regale us with your sage advice. Someone might even be able to cast & reel in "your" fish for you while you give directions . best wishes Steve
