wendyb Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 Hey guys I read somewhere that cat food is a good berley. Is this a joke, or true? Like biccies/pellets? Or mushy food? Wendyb
caranx Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 It works well. I have used whiskas canned stuff..pilchards and anchovies and its pretty good. But it can be messy and smelly. If you use the dry pellets all they do is feed the gulls as it takes a while for them to sink. What works just as well and less messy are the large sausage rolled shape dog food in the fridge at the supermarket. They are cheap and easier to cut up and chuck out.
michaelrdoyle@gmail.com Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 Dry also works Ok - if you soak them overnight, they sink fast enough, and break up into beautiful small pieces that do a lot of attracting. Mike
Buster and co Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 Hi Wendy, Try cooking up some rice, let it cool a little then mix in a tin of cheap pilchard cat food. Cheers, Rick
Langa Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 Hi, try a nofrills brand of tuna cat food, (the cheaper the better as its more oily), punch half a dozen holes in the can and attach a long piece of rope to it and throw it into the water where you are fishing, I have found this to work very well. Remember not to tie the loose end to your chair incase a big shark decides to take the lot! Cheers, Langa
wendyb Posted June 20, 2008 Author Posted June 20, 2008 just by itself? or should i put it in a berley bag? It works well. Big-Pete Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 wendyb, I use chook pellets you can buy them just about anywhere, you can use them dry or wet them down. Half fill a bucket with pellets then fill with water, the water will soak intot the pellets squeese into a ball and throw. With the catfood get a mesh bag from the green grocers the ones the put onions or oranges in tie a rope to the top and throw into the water give a shake everyso often and a berley trail will form. You can put the dry cat food in and when its ready it will break down and sink where you want it Big Pete
tastes better with chips Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 hi there wendy and all i use it all the time . works very well . its great for attracting bait fish . off terrigal there are fish traps . i just pull up next to them , throw the kitty cat can over the side ( attached by a rope of course ) and look out - millions of yellow tail !!! fresh bait on tap . just one point . remember to pull it back in before you motor off . once or twice i've been left with a cut rope that could have been bad news for the engine . all the best scott
Anti-Carp Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 Hey guys I read somewhere that cat food is a good berley. Is this a joke, or true? Like biccies/pellets? Or mushy food? Wendyb Catfood is the bait fishing American Express, don't leave home with out it. We usually mix it up with bread and some water, works a treat.
