Windu Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 Just had a quick go at the blackfish in the georges river under captain cook bridge. Unfortunately no fish to report which is a little dissapointing after seeing other good fish come out of the river recently on this website. Im not sure about you guys but i am also finding the weed hard to come by at the moment, i could only gather a handful of short stuff for a session, but regardless i didnt lose a bait. This is my first fishing report on this website, and the point of this post was to thank other people that reported their success with blackfishing on this website, which inspired me to take up this enjoyable form of fishing.
GregL Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 Hi Windu You mention you only gathered a hand full of weed, do you burley when fishing for blackfish? My burley mix is about a 3 parts sand and 1 part weed mixed super fine. Over a 3 hour session with a bit of current and a good hand full every 5mins we go threw over half a bucket of burley. Usually we can get them to start feeding onto the weed we are using within an hour. As you are finding, weed is hard to come by so we are saucing weed from other systems and bringing it back to the harbour to fish it. As the weed is not local it takes a bit to get the fish to turn and feed on it. Greg
hookerbruce Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 Hi Windu Last thurs we fished for blackfish in the Georges and found them very quite for a change. We don't have enough weed to make up berley either so have to keep trying every rock, post etc looking for them. Finally had some success right on the bottom of the tide but only ended with 3 keepers from about 8 bites from nearly four hours fishing. If the wind is okay going to try them again on friday earlyish to get the runout tide. Are you landbased or fishing from a boat? Good luck Bruce
Windu Posted June 27, 2008 Author Posted June 27, 2008 Thanks for the comments guys, Unfortunately Greg i wasnt able to source enough weed for burleying, but i will take your advice and find some more weed so i can burley as you described. Bruce, i wasnt able to go today but i will probably give it another go tommorow landbased, ill let you know if i have some success. Cheers
luderick59 Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 as for berley try chopped up cabbage, bread ,damp sand and local mud from the shore berley early in the rising tide so it does not take the fish away when tide reaches its peak and use cabbage for bait if weed is scarce if no downs resort to bread as bait for the blackies peter
