Just bought another rod and reel on payday :074:

What should i spool the td25 with?

Going to use it for trolling and bottom bashing livies, im thinking either 50lb braid or 40lb mono...

Still gotta read the manual to see how much line it holds :biggrin2:

G'day Iricangi,

depends what you plan to do with the reel. I've got a TLD25 spooled with 10kg mono that I used to use trolling and shark fishing on my previous, bigger boat. You're in with a better than even shot at picking up small marlin on the coast in season and if that was going to be the primary purpose I'd recommend 10 or 15kg mono (the stretch is an advantage with violent, jumping fish). Braid would be my preference for bottom fishing because of the sensitivity. Either way it's a trade-off.

I'd be tempted to fill it with braid (or just top shot it with braid to be more economical), then when the marlin/dollies/etc turn up, unload the braid onto an old alvey or something and respool with fresh 10 or 15kg mono. When you stop chasing the beakie boys, reverse the process.

It's not too much kerfuffle only once a year and then you don't need to make the compromise.

Incidently, from memory my TLD25 has got about 600m of 10kg Berkley Iron Silk mono on it... maybe a little more (but it's been a while since I respooled it so my memory may be out a bit)

Cheers, Slinky

There she is on the left ready to go and my 14 yr old smaller version of the tld20

Ran out of mono to spool the 25 up with but felt comfortable enough with around 500ish metres on there.

Surprisingly it doesn't look as dirty in reel life as that photo

I'll make another thread to ask how ppl clean their gear and maintain them..

Thanks for another quick response slinky :biggrin2:

hey mate,

I have recently purchased a tld as well and spooled it with 15kg tiagra line... from memory we got about 7-800m on it..

As stated before the reason for not going with braid was the stretch, but i use it for a bit of everything and couldnt be bothered unspooling and respooling each time.

cheers

Tony's given you some great information there on spooling off and topping up  I would just add ... when you stop chasing the beakie boys reverse the process and get into those bigger fish :D

Hey Slink cancel soccer, netball, window shopping, painting, dog grooming, out patients departments, sack the lure storage caretaker and syphon out the carp pond.

Drop everything, even your weekly hair trim and get the Quintrex primed up for tomorrow. Look at it this way I can get 3 kilos of tripe on special for the jew bait, seriously.

If you had to go to the lottery office tomorrow and wait twelve hours to collect, you'd be there for sure no risk about that  give me a call

Thanks Byron... its actually torture. I'm committed to heading out on Sunday morning and with the house on the market and the associated continual upkeep, my life wouldn't be worth living if I tried for a Saturday night session too. I was looking at the combination of tides, moon, movements of mullet etc and I had a half inkling based on your info that it was looking pretty good.

I even tried shouting :wife: a flight to the Gold Coast to see her family for the weekend to no avail (then I would have been fishing from this afternoon until Sunday evening!!

Please let me at least take a rain check and hopefully we can get out again soon.

Cheers, Slinky

Respooled the tld20 with platapus line

lo-stretch 15kg mono 500metres went on and it can still handle more.

Hopefully the mono can act similar to braid like it states so i can get a better indication of bites and bumps on the 36;s
