puka9988 Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 hey Raiders im wanting to try out a cheap bait caster but have a few questions. are you able to chuck out bait on it or just lures? and if you do chuck bait out are you able to put the rod in a rod holder/put it down etc. or will it birds nest? cheers stockoboy
Ray R Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 Hey Stocko, you can use them for bait fishing as well as luring and yes you can put them in a rod holder, set your drag correctly and should be fine, I have used my Shimano TSM 3 (Overhead) for both and worked fine, but if you set the drag to lightly and you get a fast pulling fish you could end up with a nasty backlash. Try , test , practise, you'll be fine...
stylo Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 I use my BC for livebaiting. It has a bait clicker function. far-king awesome if you ask me ! Almost and I mean almost as good as my shimano BTR. I use it more as an overhead reel than a 'baitcaster' in that sense. I prefer my spinning reels in the smaller/lighter classes. Definitely more finesse about them when going extremely light. No harm in getting one and trying it out for yourself !
