slinkymalinky Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 OK, so it's only a carp... but I wanted to give this 'fishing with spider web' a crack and even though it's just a mud sucking pond rat, IT'S MORE FUN THAN TEXAS! I'm in love with this light line caper and while I'm not (on ethical grounds) going to use it on fish destined for release, it makes even hopeless fish fun. 62cm on 2lb Platypus fluorocarbon Stealth Leader. I didn't weigh it but the porky pig would have been 4kg conservatively so I feel safe to say I've finally caught a fish 3 times the breaking strain of my line... and it's HARD. 25 minutes from hookup to landing... the whole time with my heart in my mouth wondering if the connection would hold... and even lethargic carp take long runs and feel like sport fish on this gear. Little Slinky was almost as excited as when she caught her own kingfish... jumping up and down on the bank with the net and insisting on getting a photo with the slimy sucker. I'm planning on getting a salmon next and I'm starting to seriously consider the prospect of being spooled! I may never develop a passion for chasing carp, but it's better than sitting at home. Cheers, Slinky
shefford Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 Nice work on your carp catching, DID YOU REMOVE THEM PAST THE FLOOD LINES??! How come you couldn't get out? Hopefully i can get out tomorrow just bought $50 worth of pillies
Ray R Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 Hey Slinky and little Miss Slinky, you have become a carpoholic.. NOOOO! ! ! .....
Davemmm Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 Slinky youre in the photo and little slinky is in the photo. So that must mean you took a camera crew with you. Is the next step a full film crew to record these epic adventures and maybe release a range of carp fishing DVDs. Dave
slinkymalinky Posted June 28, 2008 Author Posted June 28, 2008 Yep... It's going to be called "lack of adventure bound"... this was one of our walks down the street so the agent could take some people through the house. Cheers, Slinky
jewgaffer Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 .......this was one of our walks down the street so the agent could take some people through the house. Cheers, Slinky Slinky, Catching a natural born game fish like a carp so close to home like that, I don't know whether to really say great carp or great burp. Tony I hope the buyer sees you and Little Slinky fishing in the pond down there, I'm sure you'll get more for the house. But then again with fuel prices lately, I'm not so sure, you might be planning on getting more for carp octane and less for the house. Cheers jewgaffer
arpie Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 Well done Slinky!!! You should take him home & bury him in your vege patch - they make terrific compost food!! That is a great effort on such light line!!! 2lb!! OMG!! Gives you a whole new appreciation of your fishing gear (and your own patience to not RUSH IT!!!) Cheerio Roberta
Hodgey Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 Top effort on the light gear, Tony That's one FAT carp! Plenty of fertilizer potential in that thing. You're going to miss that pond when you sell up, aren't ya? Hodgey
andrew399 Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 a far cry from a dory on sp's but good fun none the less!
Evets Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 I think I can now understand why my mates in England get sooooo excited when they catch one of these buggers.....
Anti-Carp Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 (edited) Very nice fish Tony !! esp on 2lb, they've got a lot of low range torque and grunt. They are very much under-rated Edited June 29, 2008 by Anti-Carp
