Fisheroudge Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 G'day Raiders, Just wondering if there has been many reports of salmon action around sydney as yet?? Looking at heading out and getting into them this weekend . Any info much apreciated Mitch I've been managing to get a few off the rocks on pilchards at curl curl whenever the swell allows and I read in the paper they're just starting to school up around the heads. I've seen a few schools of fish off the beach also, but no idea what they were although I would guess salmon.
slinkymalinky Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 G'day Mitch, Saw one little pod of them on the surface feeding just south of Bluefish Point and right in hard near the rocks. They only came up for about 2 minutes and had that 'sipping under the surface' behaviour that normally means they're feeding on 'eyes' and are going to be a bugger to catch. By the time I had a rod rigged they'd disappeared again. Cheers, Slinky
Jake Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Also had a school of sambos sipping on eyes last sunday in middle hbr. Couldn't get them to touch my 3 inch stick bait.

mitch Posted July 4, 2008 Author Posted July 4, 2008 Thanks guys, Might plot around chasin bream and stick my head out to see if there is any action around. Not sure weather Harbour or Pitty yet. Slinky, I was thinking when you wrote your first response that I might need to get the micro minnows out. I also got my hands on a japanese made minnow plastic that is about 1 -1 1/2" long. clear and pearl colours. I purely bought them for those finicky sambos. might have to take them out and see what they can produce. THe only problem is going to be getting a jighead to match.... maybe a hidden weight, the sinking braid will be able to fire them out there Mitch

Just cast it out and let it sit. The other thing that's worked for me when they are on eyes (other than pulling out the fly rod) is big stick baits (eg 6" Sluggos). Not sure why they work but I think it may be some kind of aggression thing rather than feeding, or maybe it's the only thing big enough to get their attention?? Cheers, Slinky
luderick59 Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 used to get sambos on 1inch barrel sinkers painted white run line straight through sinker lumo bead then single or treble hook they cast a mile peter
