erroll Posted July 5, 2008 Posted July 5, 2008 Hey Raiders, Anyone having luck getting livies? I have been struggling . None on monday in Watsons Bay and none at Balmoral island. Did catch a couple of huge yakkas inside North Head but they were too big for live use, but were fine as cut baits. Thoughts?? Cheers Erroll
mrt11n@hotmail.com Posted July 6, 2008 Posted July 6, 2008 Hi mate, I would try oceanworld manly anchor out front and use pillies to bring them on if they are a little shy you will can bait up your jigs.... You can also pick up squid there... Marty
donjuarez Posted July 6, 2008 Posted July 6, 2008 I've found livies to be slow if at all present at my usual spots lately... not sure, just seems they are not around! they have been replaced by a school of some other sort of fish, that look no more than a finger long... That said managed a 30cm Yakka today, as above.. too big for live use, but tried anyway.. pulled him up dead following what looked like a squid/cuttle attack... froze him up for future use
stoney Posted July 6, 2008 Posted July 6, 2008 We got plenty yesterday at west head in the hawksbury.
Ray R Posted July 6, 2008 Posted July 6, 2008 We got plenty yesterday at west head in the hawksbury. That's right Stoney we get plenty there as well , even the odd slimey ..
dandas Posted July 6, 2008 Posted July 6, 2008 That's right Stoney we get plenty there as well , even the odd slimey .. We kept bringing in good livey sized slimeys at Osbourne shoals off cronulla on Saturday if you get around there at all. Dan
keenist Posted July 6, 2008 Posted July 6, 2008 Dandas, so how did you go, apart from the slimies? We kept bringing in good livey sized slimeys at Osbourne shoals off cronulla on Saturday if you get around there at all. Dan
Lure'em Posted July 6, 2008 Posted July 6, 2008 I've just been fishing in Pittwater for 2 days and yesterday brought home 15 livies. (Used for bait at the lake) We caught at least 15 slimy mackerel and 20 yellowtail just on pilchards. P.S With Slimy strips we caught a 43cm flattie at the lake

dandas Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 (edited) Dandas, so how did you go, apart from the slimies? Could have been better but it's always good just to get out there. I was out with Raider Mikeh191 and between us we managed a bunch of Slimeys, a Gummy Shark, and a Bull Ray. Dan Edited July 7, 2008 by dandas

Thanks Raiders, I did end up checking the old haunts but found a fair few yakkas at north head. Still on the big side but better than nothing a landed a 70cm king which seemed like a fair trade to me..... Actually got hit on two rods at one and lost one in the process. Thanks again guys.
