arpie Posted July 5, 2008 Posted July 5, 2008 (edited) Hi guys Kim came over from Canberra today (left at 4am, arriving 11am, on the water by 12.30pm!!) Amazing!!! Wendy (left) and Kim (right) Wendy was already at Tuncurry, so we met up with her & started fishing in the bay. She had rung me to say she had a huge fish on & wasn't sure of the species! This was the biggest of the 4 she had captured today! GIANT PUFFER!! No Spines tho Serious teeth! I went to the next bay & caught a small flattie that went back, then got a keeper, which went home with Wendy. Kim also caught about 3 flatties (keepers but put back) and also caught one of the big puffers too!! I was feeling left out ..... NOT!!! We were heading back to the main water when we saw a lady blackie fishing from shore ...... I realised it was a buddy I'd fished with last year - LISA! Yay! Another Female Fishing Fanatic!! ANd a top blackie fisher, to boot! SHe already had 2 nice ones in her bucket & was keen for some more! I hooked up a small one that went back & Hope to have Lisa registered on Fishraider Shortly!! I headed back to the main lake & caught up with Wendy again - she had had lots of little stuff, but no keepers. I reckon she'll try our bay next time! All up, a great day out on the water with good buddies, renewing a friendship with Lisa & just happy to be able to show Kim my 'backyard' with no rain!! It rained all day yesterday & we plan on hitting the water every day this week, weather permitting ..... & if not possible, will go beach worming & fishing instead! CHeerio till next time :) Roberta Edited July 5, 2008 by Roberta
slinkymalinky Posted July 5, 2008 Posted July 5, 2008 You guys are going to have to get a uniform soon... Roberta's Rack Yaks or something. Nice to see you got out with some pals. Wendy's new yak looks great in the water. You certainly wouldn't lose it on a dark night!. It looks like yakking is the mother or all ingenuity. So many nifty storage solutions. It always amazes me you can fish, take photos and paddle around without ending up in the drink. Glad you had a good day on the water. Cheers, Slinky
Hodgey Posted July 5, 2008 Posted July 5, 2008 Glad the weather improved for Kim's arrival, Roberta Looks like you ladies had a terrific time on the water. Some of those photos are great, particularly the closeup of the puffer, and the flattie in the water. I am going to bite the bullet now and take my good camera out on the water with me from now on! Great to see that Kim got on to some nice flatties. I foresee quite a few more fish being caught before the week is over, weather permitting. Hope to see Lisa to the forums soon. Keep up the great work, Roberta. I'll give you a bell one night next week. Hodgey
flatty hunter626 Posted July 5, 2008 Posted July 5, 2008 lol looks like you are forming a nice clan of yak fishos!
Ray R Posted July 5, 2008 Posted July 5, 2008 Hey Roberta, sounds and looks like a fun day fishing in the yaks with friends, seems to to be a lot of female fisho's up Tuncurry way, must be something in the water... I have seen those big ugly puffer things down my way and I think they are what we call GREEN TOADS, usually caught offshore they eat everything even snapper leads, swivels as well as chewing hooks off. Good report Roberta.. Catchya..
arpie Posted July 5, 2008 Author Posted July 5, 2008 (edited) Thnkas guys! Us girls, Ve vill be taking over za vorld!! hehehe Gorgeous day today - hopefully for the next 4!! Tues looks a bit suss tho! We'll be popping the shallows today (guess which ones, Hodgey!??) & tossing hbs with gay abandon & be on the move today (the beauty of having the Hobie!! ) No need to anchor! I may even try to catch a bream on a sp (other than by accident!) I saw one 'structure' in the bay (on the sounder) that had fish all round it the more I think of it, I reckon it is a shopping trolley!! Couldn't find it on the next sweep, so will hopefully find it next time I go into that part of the bay! I've heard about a mysterious 'sunken barge' that is a blackie paradise!! Just gotta find it! Very 'obscure' directions~! I got a Black Queen for Kim last week, so she will also be initiated into the "Dark Art"! Yeah Ray - those green toads seem to be everywhere just now!! I have seen your normal garden variety grey ones with huge spikes nosing around the Breck Channel - but had never seen one in those sheltered bays before! Must be breeding season!! They made a mess of Wendy's net! Hi Hodgey - put some pennies aside & save up for a waterproof camer - some of the superceded models go out cheap for less than $300! Then you don't have to worry about it getting wet (my old one got dunked when I got rolled in the surf ) But in the boat, should be safer! Or maybe just get a waterproof housing for it to be on the safe side! Hi SLinky - how are your designing skills??? We'll see what you can come up with! Just don't have too many I do tend to wear the same or similar outfit every time I am out ...... if I want to go incognito, I just change my hat & long sleeved shirt & no-one recognises me Cheerio - it's going to be a very fishy week! Kim is obsessed!!!! Roberta Edited July 5, 2008 by Roberta

glennmreid Posted July 5, 2008 Posted July 5, 2008 sounds like you had great fun Roberta. I miss Forster. I am looking forward to the next time. Hopefully in around 3 weeks.
arpie Posted July 6, 2008 Author Posted July 6, 2008 Terrific Glenn!! LOok forward to catching up again & hopefully putting you onto those big blackies this time! Kim & I went to the flats & around some old leases yesterday - OUT ALL DAY!!! We got lots of flatties on my favourite squidgy fish silver fox sp (just legal so put back) & bream on sx40 lookalikes! (mostly too small so put back!) Funnily enough, the one that did the damage for me was one that was 'Green toad' colour!! Green on top & white belly!! Kim caught a beautie on her sx40 but it busted her off! A real Blue Nose, it was - she almost had it to the yak! small bream bigger bream on same lure nice silhouette of Kim on the lake Wendy arrived a while after us & fished her bay & the closer racks, for only little stuff! Lisa was out again looking for blackies .... had none when we left. Kim & I are hitting the landbased spots that CHopper75 knows well ....... hope to get her into her first ever blackie today, on her brand new Black Queen Rod! What a gorgeous rod it is, too - puts mine to shame! Cheerio for now ROberta
