G'day all, tried again for a Jew last night in a gutter at Nth Cronulla beach. Same old same old not a touch for 2hrs then suddenly the big moment I've been waiting for, for nearly 2 years. I'm starting to dose off in my chair when the rod goes bananas and line starts peeling off. Finally that sound I've been hearing in my sleep...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Two short burst of drag getting pulled brings my heart rate up to about 100 beats a minute and in a split second I'm out of the chair and have rod in hand. I'm telling my self, "This is it, don't stuff it now or you may never get another shot." As I'm yet to hook a jew, I'm unsure on how the feel to be connected to. After 1 or 2 minutes, my fishing experience tells me this is no Jewie. The heart rate falls and with a few minutes I have a banjo shark on the beach. After an easy release I'm atleast happy to get some sort of action after hrs of nothing, even if it was just a ray/shark.

G'day Nats, keep trying mate, a Banjo, a big Ray, then who knows , maybe your Jewie will come, your efforts deserve one.. Cheers

Hi Nats Glad you got some sort of run for the time you put in. It's a shame the banjo shark wasn't a jew but you at least let the fish run and hooked up solid. Jew are compatiable with the harmless shark varieties which are bottom fossickers that wait around for signs of activity so they can get their share of the left overs.

You'll find you'll eventually get one of each around the same time. Keep plodding along and I am sure you'll know it's a jew by the head shakes.

Cheers

Thanks guys, most of you have abeen regular contributors to my questions. I feel like I owe it to all of you guys who have helped me. I leave in 11 weeks and counting. Which gives me 2 full moons and 2 new moons. Bit worried about the August winds though off the beach.

G'day Nats,

Maybe we will meet up one day. I was there with a couple of mates on Saturday night. Hole in front of No.7 was being fished so we headed further north. I also got a hit about 10 o'clock which took off like a jewie on a big first run. I was holding the rod at the time and after striking the reel started to zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. Managed to turn him and started to pump and wind him back when unfortunately a lack of preparation meant my line snapped (it's old and should have been replaced but my rod was at my mates place and tackle somewhere in the garage as I have only just moved house) :1badmood:

Anyhow, you live and learn.

Yeah, I picked up a 10kg model at No. 7 earlier this year. Last Saturday I was further north.

Keep trying, I was at it for years before my first. Did you pick up anything else ? We picked up two salmon.

cheers

nar nothing else on sun night. Usually I would catch tailor but the last few times I've been out I have returned with out so much as a nibble. I think maybe the water temp has dropped and so the fish have dropped off the bite. Definately a decline in fish activity since winter hit.
