Hey guys and girls, i have never been serious about fishing through the cooler months and am interseted if fresh squid can still be caught for bait, also the availability of yakka/slimys etc. The place i went through summer that never failed me with livies has not had any around it the last few weekends so i'm questioning whether the cooler months see them dissapear? If this is the case is it also the case for squid?

Also anbody who's familiar with fishing newcastle harbour and can help me out by pointing me in the direction of live bait hotspots and places to find squid would be great, im hoping to spend a night on thne boat this weekend out for a jew so anybody who can give some pointers for jewfish around that area would be tops. And i spose anybody who wants to come out, bait my rods, sit there, strike, fight the fish, kill it, fillet it theen feed it to me that's be good also.. just kidding, feels a bit that way sometimes though. Cheers guys

thanks cfd, wind has kept me inshore of late but definitely will get out when i can. Say there is wind hammering one side of a breakwall, will the wind have a bad affect on the likelihood of getting live bait there, in the windy choppy crap? would the presence of livebait be hindered by wind or is it just whoevers ontop of the water in a boat its going to annoy.

I must be doing something wrong.... Is there a place you can buy fresh squid, all bait stores seem to have frozen Hawkesbury squid.

I pretty much can't get a squid West of the harbour bridge atm.

Is anyone else finding it tough??

Plenty of squid in the harbour atm and a few small cuttles as well. Just a matter of moving around until you snag a few.

yeah mate I hear your pain. I'm from the shire and land based. Down here I'm finding that I'm putting more hrs in trying to catch squid than I am fishing with them. Most I've ever got is 2 in 2hrs solid squiding. Most get 1 or none though.
