Day 1

Went fishing in wollongong with my gf for 2 days in a row. IT was really fun. We went there again after last time's unpreparedness of losing a big blackie on light tackle. So came back with 30lb abrasion resistant line,20lb fluoro trace on a 10kg rod. Another one with 18lb mono platypus. Both were rigged to the float with servo prawns on.

The fish there was very agressive as it has big waves at the rock wall there, so they'll just bite about anything. Got there and landed my first decent fish, a black drummer 37cm. IT was about 1kg or more very fat. Next got another one at 32cm another black drummer (new pb) and caught alot of 25 to 27cm models of blackfish and drummers. My gf also landed her biggest fish, a 27cm blackfish. It was really tough landing these fish as it was over a rockwall full of rocks and i was using a 7ft rod! luckily my line held.

Later in the day I hooked up a monster black drummer even bigger than my first, i estimate it to be in the high 40s to 50cm. It was definately twice as heavy as my first, even my 10kg rod was having trouble getting it out. So i reeled it up half way, i could not turn my reel anymore as it was too heavy hanging in mid air and then the hook flew after the lip ripped off and the bent rod flew back and hit my hard on the lip and bled >_<

Day 2

Arrived at high tide, waves was hitting high and hard but stood there, landed a few wrasses after trying to bottom rig but got snagged so switched to float again. I Caught a few more drummers and what i thought was a blue drummer not sure but released. Later this guy gave me some "perch" fish. I lost another decent drummer while reeling up again. Nothing specutacular except for me losing some sort of colorful fish and it was pretty decent too. I was thinking parrotfish, lost half way up the rockwall aswell !

Good report and good to get out with the kids, and yes it is a Silver Drummer, I've heard you boil them up with a bit of Blue Metal and when that melts the fish is cooked, that's my little bit of humour for the day .. Cheers ...

Its the Eastern breakwall of Port Kembla Harbour. Its open to the public (usually)

Its exactly 1km walk to the end. Although it does offer a pretty diverse fishing environment sand on one side reef on the other and its 25-30m deep on the high tide.

My last visit was December last year where i was using live squid i was catching and getting small rat kings on light gear.

The place is usually packed and you often see guys taking their home made gold buggy with the rod holders and bag on it.

Guys ride bikes out there too.

If you head south of the Breakwall and then to the rocks on the left there's a nice ledge called battery point

(the name derives from the old battery terminals which were used up until around the 1950's)

This ledge isn't all that deep but provides a safe very productive spot to catch anything from snapper to bream and big drummer.

I usually flick plastics there but often i will berley with pellets & oil and fish royal reds with no weight.

Cheers Cam

Nice drummer !

Last time we were there we almost got swept off by the waves .. goddam .. be careful out there at night. Check the forecasts before you go.

Not so bad during the day - at least you can see where you are going !

If you nearly got swept off there it must have been bloody rough, it's a pretty high break wall.

first time i went there the waves was hitting over the rockwall! Thats how bad it could get and you can get drenched in no time. Thats why always check weather before you go.

every 1 says silver drummer are crap to eat but a mate of mine was on a fishing trip with a heap a blokes and they got a heap of black drummer with a lot of silver drummer mixed in there, they all give him heaps 4 keepen them saying they are disgusting to eat, that night he cooked them all up 2gether (unbeknown to all the boys) they ate the whole lot saying they were awesome! (thinking they were all black drummer) whenever i catch em i throw em in with me black drummer, they all taste gr8! bled on capture filleted skinned and deboned, a cup of flour and a teaspoon of curry powder in a bag throw pieces in and shake, then shallow fry in frypan with a bit a oil in it. cook quickly, lemon and salt  if you dont believe me, at least try it!!!!
