Hello there fishraider

I’m new to this website, actually not that new...i have been to scared to ask questions :(

This Saturday morning I will be fishing Narrabeen beach fazing the cold weather.

Me and my mate will attempt to catch live bait and use it to catch a nice big fish (at the moment I don’t care what I catch, as long as its legal size and tasty)

My question is, what is the best way to burly the cost so I can attract the big fish? :1fishing1:

I'm challenging the weather so I can practise now, for when spring and summer comes along I will hopefully have more experience!

Cheers

G'day R80,

don't ever hold back on asking questions mate... everyone on the site has different levels of experience and knowledge and one of the best things about being a member is that everyone is ready and willing to help each other out. No such thing as a silly question here.

The best way to burley a beach is to get a keeper net, onion bag or wire cage. Fill it with fish scraps, old bread loaves, left over bait, frozen burley 'logs' like you can make or get in tackle shops. Then shove a stake (a beach rod holder can work pretty well) into the sand down in the zone where the waves wash up on the beach. Tie your burley bag to the stake and each time waves wash up the beach and over the bag, they'll wash out particles of burley.

Every so often if you're using fish frames or similar you can stand on the bag to squash a bit of burley into mush so it washes out easily.

If you get into some fish you want to use as bait (like mullet, tailor, salmon) you can occasionally add one or the frame from one to your burley bag to keep it going.

Gday roosterman,

I usually use slinkys method.

it can be an onion bag or watever. i usually use an empty cordial bottle, as we have heaps,

fill it with all sorts of minced bait goodies, breadcrumbs and a couple capfuls of tuna oil.

shake it up and chuck it in the freezer. the frozen burley will release a steady whiff, to keep the fish interested.

just stab a few holes into the bottle and tie it off as slinky mentioned. you could also fill it with sand to keep the berley down, and avoid feeding the seagulls.

what you can also do if you forget the burley, get there at low tide, crush some bait etc and bury it all over he area you are about to fish. this way when the tide comes in, the berley will slowly seep out as the waves come in!

Hope this helps!
