from what i've read they say multiply the depth by 3-4 to determine the weight of the jig

The rule of 3-4 is one of the fundamental universal laws that keeps popping up in fishing...

- when :wife: finds a new fishing rod in the rack divide its price by 3-4 before mentioning it out loud.

- when listening to the story about the one that got away, subtract 3-4 pounds

- when a fisho tells you he can guarantee you'll catch a boat load of fish, it means you'll probably catch 3-4

- when Swordfisherman tells you that it will be at least 10 degrees on the hairtail night, it will be closer to 3-4

- whenever you go on a long range fishing trip you will always end up with 3-4 times more gear than you need

- when you first set out to catch any new species it will always take 3-4 times longer than you think (except jewfish which take 3-4 times longer than 3-4 times the amount of time you think)
