claxton Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 Morning raiders I noticed mullet strips in the local servo and am off fishing pittwater on the weekend. have any raiders tried these as a bait and what do you guys reckon? Will be using prawns and any livies we can get. Have any raiders had any successful trips out there recently. Prob going in from Bayview? Cheers Claxton
flatty hunter626 Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 yer mate a good bait for flattys have even caught a few bream on it....great for when pickers are around as the bait stays on the hook fairly well. cheers flatty hunter
claxton Posted July 16, 2008 Author Posted July 16, 2008 Cheers Flattie Hunter Would you let them drift down the berly trail to the bottom with minimum weight on? pretty large hook ? Heading off from Bayview where would you recommend this time of year? thanks for the tips Claxton
flatty hunter626 Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 yer mate drifting them down a berley trail works i have fished mullet strips in so many different ways and they are very consistant and versitile. mate i have had alot of sucess drifting around at the entrance to pittwater starting just inside west head and drifting out towards lion island....... make sure u put a ganged white bait out as well if you try this as i have caught some big flounder using that method. but i have picked up some nice flattys, tailor and bream there on mullet.. cheers flatty hunter
Davemmm Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 Mullet strips from a servo sounds a bit dodgy to me. If you dont catch em live go to the local fisho and buy a fresh one. The mullet gut will be your best bait of the day aand fresh strips will out fish frozen servo ones all day. Dave
Scienceman Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 Buy fresh from the local fish shop and their great for fish and especially crabs, otherwise skip the frozen ones as you'll only catch 1/2 the fish you would have on fresh. Especially good bait in autumn when they school in the esturies and run up the coast. They are also at their cheapest in the fish shops at this time.
flatty hunter626 Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 claxton dont worry about using "dodgy" mullet fillets if you have to(when you cant catch your own) they catch plenty of fish in my experiance... cheersflatty hunter
