Jiggy
Now that is what you call one hell of a fishing trip and some really good advice on what to look for, congrats and well done. Personally I think that the far north coast of NSW is an fantastic snapper fishery, much better than the south coast. Roughly it's the area from South West Rocks through to Ballina/Brunswick Heads. I think what makes it so good is the failry limited sea access plus the river bars you have to cross. None of them are good and unless you have a fair bit of experience I suggest playing safe and booking a charter. Get a couple of mates and you'll probably find the cost of a charter less than the cost of fuel that you would use anyway. Plus the locals know their area, know where the fish are and generally will work hard to put you onto quality fish. And the quality is pretty damn good. Add to that the diversity of fish available to you plus the great beach and rock fishing available you pretty well have it all.
