O Rings

Both of the O Rings on my fuel tank leads that are in the cuppling that attaches to the out board motor

were damaged and leaking fuel.

I went to ####### Marine and was told that you can't buy O Rings any more . You must buy the whole unit at $45 + Gst each. Thats $100 for 2.

He suggested to go to ABC bearings at Silverwater and try there.

I went down there they had all sizes of O Rings, fitted them for me all for a cost of $2 for 2.

They are in Vore Street.

Now that is a saving!!

Hi Peter, good tip, BUT you can buy the fuel fitting complete from $5 for aftermarket ones and the genuine BRP ones (which are better) cost $11 incl GST. I guess you went to the wrong place is all I can say.

Cheers,

Huey.

Hi Peter

You might want to get a couple of spare ones as well. Have seen quite a few people who run premium or ethanol have issues with swolen , soft or brittle or rings and leaking fuel systems. Clean out the groove they sit in as a decent seal is lost due to crap there.

If yours died becuase of fuel use just check all your clamp fittings on your motor and fuel systems as they may have softened. Fittings sometimes get smal cracks in them so check that out as well as a new oring will fix it for a while but it will fail.

Smells like paint thinner in a few of the innerwest servos

Cheers

Hi Huey

Thanks for your reply. It might be the case.

In future I will keep you in thought for service etc.

I have had so many problems with mechanics not only with my car / boat motor.

I have lost all faith in all of them. What we need in this site is a TRUE, GENUINE MECANIC WHO DOESN'T RIP PEOPLE OFF.

Your contributions to this site are very appreciated as I have read them all

Many thanks

Peterd

We are very lucky to have Craig as a sponsor here at Fishraider , his free advice is always accurate , and has saved many of our members time and money. Huetts Marine are the ONLY people I will allow to work on my beloved Etec !!

My two bobs worth - If buying O'rings for fuel sealing applications from a bearing supplier or specialist o'ring supplier you might consider specifying "Viton" o'rings. In my experience these are better suited to petrol sealing applications than the normal NBR ( Butile rubber) off the shelf O'rings
