Blackies On The Chew G/river

After scratching up a bit of weed my son & I went to a spot on the river late Tuesday for a 2 hr session which

was the best for some time . Caught a fair few & sent them back & kept some for a feed (30 to 40 cm size ) .

The bite was hot for an hr or so until dark . So if a bit of weed can be found they respond well at the moment :1prop:

Well done on the Blackies, nice feed there. How do you like to cook them any secret recipe?

Cheers Cam

Hi Cam,

I bake most of the blackies in the oven as they are a thick solid fish and I tend to waste too much by fileting and frying.

I place on alfoil marinate with small amount of olive oil, salt & pepper and a desertspoon of a special soy sauce called Ketjap Manis (a sweet flavoured soy). Wrap alfoil into a tight parcel and bake at 180c for approx 25 to 30 min depending on thickness of fish. Serve with lemon juice and left over pan fried baked potatoes.

The cooking is the easy part - catching them is the tricky bit.

Regards.

G'day Pafisho,

Great catch :thumbup: . And I agree with everyone else - they are a great fish to both catch and consume. Have you tried smoking them? They are absolutely brilliant. I notice that Roberta often does them this way as well.

Good on ya for finding them. I found a little weed early in the week and tried a few places in Lake Illawarra but

only found very small fish :05: (15 to 20cm). Guess I'll just have to keep trying.

Regards and keep up the good work;

Howard
