Leaking Engine Bolts

Hi All

Just got back from a week in Nambucca. Unfortunately very little fish.

Our Quintrex takes in some water through the engine mount bolt. This has been attempted to be fixed about 5 times by a local marine dealer (no longer in business). They have replaced the sandwich plate, had the motor off etc etc.

I just checked and it is the RHS lower bolt. Is it a feasible fix to just remove that bolt and re sicaflex, or should i take it to someone and have the motor removed completely and start from scratch. I am really over this leak and just want it right so I can have full confidence in the boat.

The boat has a live bait tank mounted which makes access to the bolts very difficult without removal. The clowns previously have never removed this or asked me too. The other option would be to put a 6" access cover on the pod transom to allow easier access to the bolts (and bilge & bait pumps)

Any thoughts appreciated.

Motor is 90hp 2cycle Yamaha

Hi Jim, knowing the history on your boat I would just remove the engine (good idea about the access port-some boat builders do not think much about fitting engines and possibily removing them when designing the hull). Then you can remove the transom backing board, clean any sikaflex that may be there and start again with a good amount of sika around the lower bolts holes.

You and a mate would eb able to do this in a few hours-nothing that hard about it.

Cheers,

Huey.
