Gidday all,my goal this year is to get a marlin from my boat this year,I have had a few shots but decided to get serious and put "REKLESS" in at Longreef on Saturdaytrouble is that at 4m I am slightly restricted as far as open waters go.Any way Dan my brother came along and seeing as the time was right we thought we might have a crack at some shallow water snapper while waiting for dawn. The pick went down near white rock and then we proceeded to cube up some sweep.....make that every sweep in existence.Using sweep proof baits ie slimey heads we had no luck so pulling the pin we headed out a little deeper with much the same result. The water had gone relatively cold 20.3c and had a southerley set that was green and icky looking, there was plenty of yakkas feeding on the surface unmolested with no sign of any slimeys at all.

Seeing as the water was shitty and the likelihood of finding the bait (slimeys) and what was feeding on them seemed remote we went out to the wrecks and started drifting for flathead,no luck there either ,the only things that did happen was dan pulling in a double header of slimeys,I was not marking a school on the sounder so I guess that they were pretty thin?.I put one out for the result of a slow death by squid/cuttlefish.

The southerley was making its presence felt so we headed back in feeling a little grumpy and it was a slow wet trip in until we came across fish hitting the surface at the boat ramp (50 ft out).

I was trolling a little pakula at that time and with dan getting out the three kilo gear he cast while we were still moving, instant hookup.I turned around to clear the small pusher out the back when it was scoffed by a rat king that gave me a bit of curry .We had a blast with the fish , mixed school of bonito and small 3kg macks. The kings had split for somewhere else probably just as well,on light gear in that country we would have had the tackle boxes emptied for us!.

Still a bit of a slow day but that is the breaks.

Riverstone classic ,went to the weigh in on the sunday, this is a bit of a meat fishing scene so it may not agree with all of you guys but it sure as hell was an eye opener.I only hung around to see what was weighed in but there was some of the biggest jews I have ever seen,27kg gutted and gilled,21 kg ,and a heap of 10kg plus models along with heaps of schoolys.A 60 kg black from ulladulla way would have taken the Game fish section out and there was a line up of some very heavy dusky flathead, some were huge.A smattering of dolphin fish as well as a lonely wahoo 10kg + showed that there had been a few out a bit wider. There was a few outstanding bream and some 1kg plus whiting as well.A good show was on but seeing as I had to work I only got to drink one beer! .

South West Rocks, :hitsfan::1yikes: ,It is safe to say that it is going off at the moment.I heard that changa managed a solo marlin up there ,unsure when.

I have friend that was relating a story about this morning about how they were feeding a slimey out when a sailfish hammered the one under the balloon at the back of the boat. The slimey that was being fed out the back was left on a very short leash,ie the swivel at the rodtip ,yup you guessed it,mr black marlin scoffed it and proceeded to go spaz at the back of the boat. The trouble was it was a small fish 30kg + and on 24kg was all over the place .They tagged them both.

I asked him where,he said that bait reef at the gaol, you know ,where you picked up the cobia last year.SHIT says I ,thats only 100m from the breakwall!.

Saturday and sunday all saw 100's of fish tagged by the boats off there with mega dolphinfish as well.Im going up on friday night, fish saturday, sunday and then back home.

Rekless,

After reading your report I'm starting to sweat - we'll be fishing Pt Stephens on the way to SWR for a week arriving Sunday afternoon. I can just guarantee the marlin will have either moved on, got tackle shy or shut down completley. :05: when we target them :ranting2:

Gidday blue cod,you are fishing the PFT arent you.make a suggestion, troll the pakulas but have a skip bait/livey handy, some of the reports are very heavy,,broad bill picking up 22 stripeys!!,the place to go sounds like the car park and put your fish baits out. What boat are you fishing on?

G'day Rekless,

Didn't see your post until just now - I'll be fishing in team "Fishless" a 600RF Haines Signature - blue bimini over white hull. You're also fishing up that way this weekend aren't you?

Thanks for the advice - we often have a tank of slimies on board to drop a bait back or to slow troll, though this year it might just be a saltwater fly that gets dropped back to anything around 30 kilos if they're not hitting the lures. By the sounds of it the Car park is the spot up there that is really going off. We've got a pretty fair idea of where it is but do not have reliable GPS marks for it, yet.

If any Fishraider wants to share GPS for the Carpark, it would be appreciated.

Gidday guys,

well I fished the PFT last year with Max jonno and his mate mark on board HARPOON ,we had a pretty good trip then with something like a 5 2 0 ,that included loosing one of max jonnos numerous lures, lets just call that one LOUMO part 1.Anyway we discovered the mother lode out there where there was something like 15 boats including BROADBILL and BILLFISHER.

Now this spot was north of the canyons and as you may know that year after year the slimeys seem to go back to the same spot.We encountered a few "MEGA " shoals ,I will give the marks if you PM me.This was the same spot that Ross hunter got his Grand slam ,we were at one stage so close to one of the fish that we offered to lean out and tag it for them!!.

Keep in mind that this place is over 37km from the light house and in a SE direction.

Something else to,we came across several smaller schools in close that I know did yield a few marlin last year just off the light house.

Forgot to mention,I will be heading up to SWR on friday night ,fishing solo on "REKLESS" saturday (4m blue hull) ,and possibly with max on the sunday if he can tear himself away from a promise of beer, muddies and sitting on his rear on a nudist beach.
