glennmreid
Just took my boat up to Hueys. Getting a brand new 60 HP E-TEC fitted to my boat. I had a 2006 Mercury 4 Stroke 60 HP, found it just didn't have low down torque or power that I required. I reckon it will be a pocket rocket with the new E-TEC. Can't wait to compare the difference between the two different types of motors.

Kruzenvax
Have my 60 hp etec for almost 2 years now - can't complain at all (fingers crossed). All the time I forget it is there... no hassles at all.
Flightmanager
Just remember the first time you open the throttle to hang on !! It will have a lot more punch out of the hole !!! Ross
pelican
Hope you have some real life numbers to compare from your old motor so you know and can let us know. Be interesting to hear just how much difference it makes and of that difference how much is set up by the dealer not the actual motor or the way it delivers power. Be great once the ETEC has a few hours on it to get your opinion. Pel
richard_pdc
Could you tell me how much it set you back ? Do you still have the 60 4 stroke or did you trade it in ? Very keen on upgradeing my 50 hp mariner to a 60 4 stroke or a 60 etec Regards Richard
glennmreid
Just remember the first time you open the throttle to hang on !! It will have a lot more punch out of the hole !!! Ross HI Ross, I am really looking forward to the new motor. Looking forward to the extra grunt. I better hold on tight the first time I open her up, wont be used to the power. Could you tell me how much it set you back ? Do you still have the 60 4 stroke or did you trade it in ? Very keen on upgradeing my 50 hp mariner to a 60 4 stroke or a 60 etec Regards Richard Not sure how much the full cost of the motor was as I traded in the 4 stroke. After trade in, the difference I have to pay is $5000 which includes installation. Hope you have some real life numbers to compare from your old motor so you know and can let us know. I will update everyone was I have got the boat back and have given her a good run.

hoges1974
MY 4.50m Bermuda runabout. Hey mate Congrats on the new engine Just wanted to know how you find the Bermuda i have the 510 island runabout and find it to be a good allrounder. I use it to fish and ski and have an absolute ball in it cheers Hoges
a boat
Good Morning, yes I am interested in seeing the difference as well. I have had the chance to run many of the same model boats with the same HP 4-Stroke and E-TEC, but this is a great chance to run on the SAME boat with all else being equal. I think I know what the outcome will be when we get the chance to swap out the engines. The Mercury is a fine outbard, no better or worse than other 60HP 4-Strokes on the market and I ran the boat yesterday afternoon and with only me in the boat I was left a little flat with the performance as well. Mainly the low down torque and the need for the outboard to work hard to cruise. The Merc has a SST prop and Permatrim so it has been set-up by Glenn to get the best out of her, but I could imagine how it would go with say 4 adults. Glenn looks after his stuff and you should see his boat, it has all the toys and we are fitting the new outboard with a Tacho that will give him fuel flow so he will be able to compare this as well. The E-TEC comes STD with a SST prop and we are fitting a Permatrim so it will be a fair comparision. The E-TEC has two main things going for it though, it has better torque down low and the gearbox on the I-2 E-TEC are far superior to the Merc gearbox, but that same thing can be said against all 40-60HP 4-Strokes. I honestly think the top speed will be similar and the fuel economy pretty much the same and as I said to Glenn, the E-TEC are smooth and quiet at idle, but the 60HP EFI Merc is proably the class leader in terms of noise at low speed. The opposite is the case at cruising and with the 4-Stroke needing to do over 4000 RPM to cruise the E-TEC will be doing 500 or more revs less so it will be quieter. The cost of owning and operatly the outboard will be in the E-TEC favour. All in all a great chance to compare two very good "clean" and fuel efficient 60HP outboards. Cheers, Huey. PS-Richard check your PMs mate when you get a minute.

I used to own the 420 Nautica, but found her a bit unstable, particularly in rough weather. My current boat is great, she can handle the rough weather and rides really good. Also, she is a bit wider than my last boat so has plenty of room. Good Morning, yes I am interested in seeing the difference as well. PS-Richard check your PMs mate when you get a minute. It will be an interesting comparison Huey. The Merc I had was a good motor. Very quiet and fuel efficient. Starts first time all the time. I do agree with you about the low down torque, and the need to say about 4000rpm to get things moving. I was pretty happy with her, in the end I needed more low down torque and performance, which the E-TEC will give. I have all the toys in the boat. Probably more toys fitted than the Manly ferry. Central coast Mariner
Good to hear, mate Ive also got my rig in at huey's getting an new etec. Its a Pride gazelle, and she's getting a 150 etc put on the back. Cant wait to see how it goes, the new engine has inspired a bit of a refit on the old girl, reco the seats, new stereo, new bimini with rocket launchers etc. Sort out the storage, might even put in a proper live bait tank, instead of the old esky and air pump. I ummed an ahhhed for ages after the merc died, was nearly going to sell the whole lot and start again, but its a good hull, so im hoping the etec will breathe some life into it. Had on old carbie 135 mariner on there that died, so it will be a bit like night and day for me I hope. Heres to the both of us enjoying our new Etec's! Boban
I've got two Evinrudes on the back of my Sailfish and I must admit to wishing they were 4 strokes when I bought her recently. I had nothing but good experiences with my 2000 model 130Hp Honda. That boat is now with my BIL. I however cannot complain about the Evinrudes performance, especially when it comes to getting a move on. Granted the boat is a little overpowered but still I cannot tell the difference between a heavy load or a light load when I apply the power. I could with the Honda. The Honda was a lot quieter at low revs like when you are trolling but not so much when you are cruising. All in all, they seem to be OK so far. VA911
You will love the 60 swap over. I had an old smelly 65 suzuki 2 stroke and huey put a 60 etec on my old girl at the beginning of the year. Let me tell you the thing almost jumped out of the water on my first run. I have goten used to it now and all in all the motor has served me well..
