Kirks Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 Hey guys I am going up to Yamba in the Christmas holidays , I need to know where the best places to fish are. I will actually be staying down at Angourie. I will probably be fishing down at the lagoon as I am staying less than 200m away. Also is there any good charter operations that run up there. My gear is mostly plastics and some bait as well as Breakwall gear. Cheers Steve
andrew399 Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 Are you boat or LB fishing? Yamba is a top spot and the clarence river is one of my favourite fishing spots in the world, so peaceful and full of fish! Have a go off the breakwall with some livies. Also there are heaps of big sandbanks to chuck placcies around at high tide, browns rocks is another good spot, further away up the river. You'l get some big bream here, use fresh bait. Not sure about charters inshore, plenty of offshore ones. But i doubt you will need it as there are plenty of fish. Also try off the beach for tailor.
Kirks Posted October 27, 2008 Author Posted October 27, 2008 (edited) Hey Dicko I will be landabased. Yeah the Clarence is amazing, last time I was up there it was in full in full flood so no fish. I have heard that whiting beach is great for poppering have you done much there. I will try the spot you told me about. Cheers Steve Edited October 27, 2008 by Kirkby
andrew399 Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 yeah that browns rocks is only available by boat, whiting beach is still good though, it is pretty shallow and you will get some good whiting and flatties there. Just look around for fishy places (they are every where!!) nd you will do good. Maybe have one rod out with live nippers or a poddy mullet and chuck around placcies whilst you wait!
slinkymalinky Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 Lots of great fishing in the area... try getting a good fishing map from one of the many books around. One tip. Take the Aeroguard. Yamba is beautiful but has to be the worst spot in NSW for midges. Cheers, Slinky
captnstabbn Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 I wish could go as your guide & tackle sherpa!! - But since I can't, here's a couple of ''easy to get to'' shore spots..it's really such a big area it's sometimes hard to know where to start - hopefully these are some help Yamba wall - T-Piece at night for bream, or there's often a gutter right in close next to the wall on the turners beach side of yamba wall for bream and odd schoolie. Romiaka and Oyster Channel Bridges from shore for flathead on plastics or poddies - get some live prawns or nippers and there's possibility of school jew, whiting etc. Also caught MJ's around around the rocky points under the bridge on livies. Pick a low tide and there's miles of channels, sandbanks and weedbeds up there to wade around and catch flathead. Anywhere along the western Palmers Island shore for bream, flathead & odd jew - i'm sure there's a segment on a berkely dvd catching jew along there. Your clue is Shady Nook.... If you're staying down Angourie way, get some worms (the BP at yamba should have live beach worms) and try the back beach for whiting, dart, bream and flathead in the shallow gutters (don't throw out too far!). Maybe walk down to one mans and fish the washes for tailor bream etc (they're better in winter - but still should be a few around). Wooloweyah lagoon is pretty shallow and weedy but take a mudcrab trap for there!! Enough Now - we want those pic's!!!
