diver1
well, they tell me the crabs r on in lake macquarie? i just dropped me pots out there so ill let use know how i go, ive used chicken necks in sum and mullet in the others, my question is wat do all the fishraiders think is best? the biggest crab i ever got was actually with a tin of cheap cat food with a heap of holes punched thru it with a screw driver. Jewhunter
Chicken carcasses can be picked up at a poultry supplier very cheap & are fantastic crab bait. Spoke to a mate of mine who's a pro crabber in Hervey Bay last night & he uses them as well. Cheers, Grant.
wrinkley
Have to disagree with you Iceman, Big flatties love to eat small blue swimmers, So the crabs grow up being scared of the flatties. If you have to use the flathead frames, make sure that you remove the head. but if poss, stay away from using the flathead. Any old fish frame is good, and the trusty cat food tin as well Wrinks
ivano
Hi all, I am not too sure what the crabs eat here. But my grandpa used to get shark meat, put it in a tin and then have it baked under the sun. Trust me, it'll stink the whole place up so be prepared and wear a glove when U're handling it. After baking it for 1 or 2 days, we'll put it in the cage and let it sit. What grandpa says is that shark meat is very tough as well as the smell would attract alot of crabs. I believe him as whenever he's free, we'll see crab coming home. Not always but on a good day, 5 maybe?

wrinkley
My dad and i could never work out why 4 of our traps had 3 to 5 blueys, and the one trap with the flat head in it NEVER had anything in it. We tested our theory for weeks, and the same result every time. It was some years later when gutting a larger model flatty, that we found 2 small blues in the belly. It was then that the penny dropped. Wrinks
