adkel53 Posted November 9, 2008 Posted November 9, 2008 After a couple of weeks off I have been itching to chase the bay flatties again. Began my quest a little after 6am with the tide beginning to trickle out and about 15 ks of south westerly blowing with it. By 10 am I had only 1 fish - a 45 cm model picked up on a Gulp swimming mullet that I was dragging along behind the boat as I cast around my usual haunts. Had not even had one touch while casting, so things were looking grim. I headed back to the area that I had begun at and changed my lure to a squidgy lobby in lava colour. First drift resulted in two fish of 41 and 47 cm in quick succession - things were looking up!! A couple more drifts resulted in two more - 50 and 47. Left that area as I wanted to try again at my run out favourite drop off on the way back to the ramp. I have landed some really good lizards there over the years and even a 79 cm jew last year. He was a real bonus. No joy today though so headed off at 11.30 with the wind having swung around to the south east and picking up in strength. Another nice morning on the bay. Those Squidgy lobbies are fast becoming one of my favourite lures. Not sure what they imitate and they don't have a lot of natural tail action but the lizards seem to like them!! Maybe the S factor scent that comes with them has something to do with their attraction to the lizards?? cheers Kel
slinkymalinky Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 Good results for persistence on a tough day. I bought a packet of Lobbies and all the bodies had air bubbles in them. A manufacturing fault and to make matters worse, the bubbles were all large but of different sizes so that each tail has different bouyancy. Grrrr. They look great though... like a 21st century version of the old Mr Twister double tail. Cheers, Slinky
