King slayer
I often have them chase my plastics in upper middle harbour, only when the water is clean. I'm sure it can be done to a point, but you might be more productive heading closer to consistent clear water areas.
nosliw
I have caught squid in the lane cove river however not too far from the mouth. Once there was a whole school of them about in very shallow water. However catching them has been very inconsistent and they only turn up sometimes. Hope this helps. gregg.michael
Thanks for the tips guys. I guess if i'm going to bother giving it a go, I'll try find a spot where the water is as clear as possible. I live near the mouth of the river - and usually i wouldn't bother, but when the harbour is alive in the summer months , anything is possible. A mate who is also a neighbour was fishing the mouth of the river last summer when he hooked a rat kingy whilst retrieving a bait from the bottom. It gave him the slip at the surface as he wasnt well hooked, but it made me think about the river in a different light - i know kingies come well west of the bridge, but i had never heard of them in the river before. Thanks again for the advice. Appreciate it.
PPSGT
I have seen Kings smashing bait under the Tarban Creek Bridge on Burns bay road, which is the next lot of water from Lane Cove as you head towards Victoria Road, It is a lot clearer and deeper than the Lane Cove river, so would probably be a better chance for a squid The Lane Cove river gets a lot of fresh water which would push any squid out, but its also full of shrimps, prawns and small fish so later in summer if there hasnt been much rain your chance of success might improve. Squid turn up in strange places, if you have success let me know Jason

Jason Hi Jason that's a good reply PPSGT. Jason do you think the shortage of squid in the Lane Cove River might have anything to do with salinity? - there are a lot of squid in the Hacking all the way up to Audley and perhaps the weir keeps the freshwater and pollution out of the salt section.
