Goof Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 Hey fellas, Im looking at getting a new anchor for my 5m runabout, but kinda lacking the knowledge on which anchor is best. Since most of fishing will be done in the sydney harbour, i would like one thats ideal for sand, reef, rock etc. Any suggestions on what to run? I been looking at the SARCA Anchor No 2 and it does look the creame of the crop. Any other types i should be looking at? SARCA Anchor No 2: http://anchorright.com.au/products/viewPro...eid=2&cid=1 Thanks, Steve
Jewhunter Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 G'day Goof & to the site. The Sarca would be the way to go imo. Cheers, Grant.
Goof Posted November 17, 2008 Author Posted November 17, 2008 Thanks dude! Yeah thats what im thinking, I just got a price on one, about $159 plus ill need a few meters of chain, so about $200 in total i think.
jewgaffer Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Hi Goof. I agree with Jewhunter, the Sarca is the way to go in the long run. The benefit of having a Sarca anchor is that Sarcas are designed to use either as a reef anchor or as a sand anchor and you don't have to change anchors. If you get a Sarca stuck on the bottom drive the boat past slowly, pull the rope lightly from side to side while moving and the anchor should free up. It is also worthwhile buying a second hand plough anchor as a dual purpose spare. For each foot of boat use one pound of anchor weight and one foot of chain and that will hold you in fast currents as well. Cheers jewgaffer
Goof Posted November 17, 2008 Author Posted November 17, 2008 You kinda answered the next question i was going to ask, in regards to the lenght of the chain. Thanks guys for your help, much appreciated
