mattycoss Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 hi all am looking at expanding my repertoire from estuaries to surf fishing and as a result feel like a bit of a beginner again am basically wondering what kind of equipment i need to get started - at the moment i have a 7ft 2 piece rod but im guessing it wouldnt really be sufficient for the surf conditions and am basically asking for any pointers possible at all please, as think itd be a great way to spend some time this summer thanks and hope to hear from some of you soon
brickman Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 you need 3 rods and 2 alvyes and a spare spool 1'rod for bream and flattys[10 to 15 lb line mono] 2'rod for tailor, salmon, kings [15kg mono line] 3"rod for jew and sharks[30kg mono] on the spare spool ii'v surgested alvyes as they cast a long way and are easy to use and very easy to maintian and if you drop in the sand you can just wash it out in the surf i have 3 rods that need a little work]new eyes] there all 3 meter one peace rods you can have for zip cherrs gary
craigtempo Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 ive got a crystal tip silstar ,12ft long .$120 senstive enough to feel whiting and bream nibleing but strong enough to handle jews and sharks . i love it . my reel is a okuma av80 spooled with 12lb and 3o lbasit came with 2 spools its a great reel as well although i did drop it in the sand once and that was the end of that session as the reel filled with sand ... although i cant get use to the alveys .though i would like a very lite beach outfit with an alvey . goodluck craig

Large head egg beater. 15lb line. tide chart. torch. jumper. spoon lead. long trace. weather report. towel. bucket. knife. cutting board. sun protection. beach worms and a lot of patience. Note: tell someone where you are going and do not throw out near the surfers. its alot of fun on some of the most beautiful coastal beaches on the planet.
