Nicnat Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 After our great Trevally session last week and after seeing all the Kingie reports on Botany Bay, Rod Hogger Junior & Senior were keen for another go at the Bay. Then saw the weather report for the weekend and quickly decided last night to hit it this morning before RH has to get to school. Loaded up on Yellowtail at Yarra Bay and started trolling. We have the poor man's down rigger - 400g jig a metre in front of the bait. Trolled around Molli Point for 30 minutes with little action. Saw 2 other boats down rigging live squid also for little action. One of them ended up hooking & losing a smaller Kingie. Switched to an old frozen squid head on one rod and kept the Yakka on the other. First pass and the squid head goes off. RH elbows me out of the way and does a Ninja leap and grabs the rod (typical) and proceeds to fight the hoodlum. After 5 minutes or so a 70cm model comes up to the boat. Has a last lunge at the motor and the hook pulls Probably my fault in leaving the drag up tight but don't tell RH ... Put the other crappy squid head on and second pass goes off again - RH forward rolls and trips me up and once again gets to the rod first. A similar fight and once again the hooks pull. Kept trying with the Yakkas but no interest so headed home. Beautiful day out this morning and will be back next week once we stock up on some slimey old squid heads - just checking the weather charts ...
