Guest linton Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 I have seen small shrimp in wonboyne Lake (NSW) but wasn't sure if it was true that there are prawns. If it is true could you tell what times of day, tides and moon are the best for them. Thanks, your help is much appreciated in advance.
arpie Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 (edited) Hi Linton In closed lakes, you can virtually go prawning any old time. They hide in the sand during the day & come out at night. For tidal systems, next week should be the best time, leading up to & after the 'no moon' ie new moon period. They usually make a run for it on the out tide in the evening. Good luck Roberta Prawn nets have a 'set mesh size' & if they really are shrimps, they will not be caught in the net. Prawn nets allow smaller prawns to get out, but bigger ones are netted. For night time prawning, You will need a good torch & a prawn net & a bucket to put them in. Watch out for a little brown fish with sharp fins called a Fortescue. They hurt if you get spiked by one.
