G'Day all

The Cod Classic is less than a fortnight away. I have:

Oar Gees

Stump Jumpers

Cod Seekers

Mumblers

Plastics

Jackalls (but needed more)

Spinnerbaits (but needed more)

Went shopping last week to pick up some 'last minute' additions to add to my arsenal, and here they are :biggrin2:

Finally found a couple of purple twin spins  Would anyone like to reveal their 'must have' cod/yella lures? The comp is more a social event to catch up with my father/brothers :beersmile: but rest assured we will still be having a good crack at 'em. A little concerned about the weather forecast though :1badmood:

Cheers

Woohoo, Hodgey!! Bet you're getting excited already!!! Only 2 weeks away! :1yikes:

My buddy Rod, who lives at Muswellbrook & fishes Glenbawn all year put me onto the Feralcat lures (I used the small one & it caught two of my yellas!) Black & Purple ones are his fav colour! They could work in Mulwala as well??

Good luck!!!! Look forward to your reports!!

Cheers

Mate you look set...you were pretty pumped the other week so excitement must be building....

What's with Purple and freshwater fish? I dare say they've never seen that colour before in their lives....maybe that's the attraction?

Ian take a look at Swagman lures. They are hardbodies made in a small factory in Albury and are the most popular murray cod lures used in the Murray. They have a chesty jack the lad, smart arse swimming action and wobble around like a drunken sailor. They wont go astray in the salt either, the flathead up north hit them real hard just to put them out of their misery.

There some smaller ones designed for yellow belly and cod will nail them too.

Highly recommended mate.

Cheers

G'day Hodgey,

Are you open to a thought from someone who has never even seen a cod in the flesh outside an aquarium? Just my imagination on overdrive (wish I was going to be there too) :1badmood:

I don't know whether much cod fishing is done vertically eg. in deeper water in drowned timber, but I was looking at one of the small (60g) lucanas jigs yesterday and the thought crossed my mind that it looked and must move much like a spinner bait.

Might be something to try... heaps of movement and pulsing waving bits with minimal action from the rod. Would that be a good thing for pissing off a big lazy cod by waving it slowly in front of his face repeatedly?

Cheers, Slinky

Worth a try Tony. My little tackle shop in Tuross recently got some lucanas jigs in so I will grab a couple and see how they go. They may even appeal to the yellas. Cod traditionally like a lot of ruckus; hence the success of the mumblers/chatterbaits, and twin/quad spins.

Cheers mate ;)

So how many family members have entered?? You & your nephew (I bet, assuming he is still a junior) - what about your brother??

Cheerio

6 man team consists of: Dad, myself, both brothers, nephew, and youngest brother's mate

Weather/wind projection looking pretty ordinary at this stage :( Not to worry ... it will be great to catch up with family after almost 12 months.

Cheers

Ian

Edit: 3 tinnies - 2 blokes per tinny

That's terrific - make sure you get some good family shots!! Hope you are in more than one boat!

Best of luck - reckon there'd be some 'sibling rivalry' there, for sure ...... much the same as when Sails/Cam comes up here & we hit the water :1prop:

Hope the wind drops off so it is not too rough for you.

great selection of lures there. my most successful cod lure would have to be

the Boomerang (by predatek??)..the bigger the better, great action and dives deep.

worth a thought maybe??

cheers and good luck.

Stumpies were the first things to be packed :biggrin2:

Weather still looking mediocre, so may have to fish the Ovens River instead of the lake. Fortunately, both venues are included in the comp  Anticipating 2400+ anglers :1yikes:

2007 Comp - Fish stats:

Cod = 314, Yellas = 370, Carp = 470

This year, cod weigh ins is expected to be lower due to an increase in the legal length.
