Guest Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 Wow !!! we had a good time with great weather for most of the week and a great set of friends to spend quality time on and off the water. The trip started on saturday with a little drizzle but spirits high. John and Dan were right on time at 7 .30 am for an expected departure around 9 am for the 320 km drive to Lake Glenbawn at Scone. We cruised easily up to our designated stop at the Caltex servo at Ourimbah about half way there. Tucked into some Maccas and coffee and off for the final leg which led us through Cessnock and Branxton, then onto Singleton, Muswellbrook and Aberdeen, then the final 11 or 12 clicks to the dam. We had no dramas at all and as we entered the gates to the dam, Geoff and Lyn pulled in right behind us as they had travelled via the Putty road. Quickly set up our digs and gear and it was off to see if the bass were on the bite. First cast and bang,I am on !!!! SWEEEEEEEEEEEETTTTT feeling for our week stay. We fished every day, two sessions a day and up at 4.20 am every morning and then off again at 3 pm for the arvo session and in by 8 pm. We ate like kings with over 600 buxs worth of food for our hungry mouths. We had everything from a leg of ham and lasagne to chocies and every goodie you could imagine and beer, wine and soft drinks. The weather took a turn for the worse some days and we just hung in there waiting for our chance to shoot out for a fish. One particular arvo it rained non stop for over 6 hours and Dan,Johnno and myself fished right through accounting for over 30 bass and a couple of yellowbelly. Donna had contracted the flu from someone (which was me) and felt unwell for most of the week but soldiered on when she felt well enough to fish and caught some really nice fish including a couple of nice Goldens. For a couple of the sessions I joined Dan and Johnno on his 5 mtr quinnie and we had a ball sledging each other and generally having a great time putting #### on each other he who went into the trees was ribbed for long periods and many exchanges of expletives were exchanged between good mates . I had the pleasure of taking Geoff out a few times and it was great to see him get onto some quality fish whilst I looked on. Unfortunately I only had one session with Roberta and it was tough going, but we still had a great time on the water. Big thanks to Geoff and Lyn, Dan and Johnno and particularly my lovely gal Donna who made th most of her bloody flu. We worked as a team every day and found the fish willing to take our offering of purple or green spinnerbaits as they are the best type of lure for fishing heavy snags which is where all the bass were taken. The dam itself was in great condition and one of the highlights was a double hook-up with Donna scoring a nice golden perch and me with an average sized bass We will definately go back again around the same time next year and hopefully all those 40 odd cm bass will have grown to the 50 plus fish we are all hoping to score. Fish of the week was Geoff's 44 cm bass in great condition, plenty of 40 plus and a lot around the 35 to 40 mark which is great fishing in anyones book. Here are some of our pics of the week's highlights. Regards Swordfisherman
Jewhunter Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 Great report & pics as usual Stewy!! Looks like a fantastic time was had by all. Shame about Donnas' lurgy. Even when you're sick you couldn't keep your paws of her eh, & then she suffers! Well done all Raiders who were lucky enough to make the trip. Cheers, Grant.
glennmreid Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 Well done on a great trip. Very happy that everyone enjoyed themselves. The photos were great as usual. Hope you are feeling better Donna. Glenbawn is a real beaut place. Always great fishing there. The burgers from the store are the best!
Hodgey Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 Plenty of photos to support Glenbawm's reputation as one of the premier bass spots Great to see that everyone managed to get amongst them, and the lurgy didn't prevent you from getting your share as well Donna Well done to all the Raiders who took part. An ideal place for a social Cheers Hodgey
