Thought that I better warn everyone. I launched my boat early this morning at Penrith ramp. I tied it to the pontoon as I had to go to the loo. When I got back, someone had stolen my EPIRB which was attached to the inside of my boat. Can't believe someone would steal it, considering it would be useless to anyone. If activated, it would now come up as stolen. People are so desperate these days. Bloody mongrels. Been reported to the police ans AMSA.

Cant wait till they try and find a radio station on it :074:

They will be in for a rude shock if they think it is a radio. switch it on and they will be wondering how the police have the exact coordinates of them.

That dose of Karma you ordered is about to be delivered Glenn !! :074::074: This almost qualifies for a Darwin award !!

Ahhh karma, I can't wait :074: Just makes me laugh how stupid these people are when the epirb will show up as stolen. Not only would they get rescued, but also arrested :074:

Correction.... My EPIRB! :1badmood:

I am guessing I don't need to be at your place tomorrow to pick it up? :1onono:

Did they grift anything else or was it a one off EPIRB attack? :pokey:

Sorry Robbie, no need to come over now. All they took was the EPIRB. I was only away from the boat for a few minutes.

Sorry to hear about that dude, hope it was one of the old frequency ones at least.

My boat got broken into last week, stole my heavy duty house battery and for some unknown reason pulled my whole throttle assembly off the side of the cabin, around $600 worth of damage. Mkaes me wonder if a swing mooring is the way to go. Another fella (Reefrunner) around the corner had his brand new stainless prop pinched too, great start to summer huh!

Tust me it isn't - pet hate thieves on water

Turn rant switch on

We can tell if people have been on our moored boat and it happens a lot more than we would expect. People tieing off to it to have a fish , bumping into it while downrigging, finding line over your props where someone can't cast , sinker chips in the gelcoat, vandalism and of course theft. That's the one where a knob does more damage breaking in as he hasn't the brains to force undone a $2 padlock so he breaks a $500 tempered glass window , wrecks the frame $400 to realise there is nothing but a few life jackets.

All I can say is that if you can tow it - take it home.

We take a lot of stuff off the moored boat as it is too hard to secure and we even have prop and cowl locks ( yep they steal to order engine parts as well) We have engraved everything with boats name and rego Thieves are absolute scum and boat thieves are not all amatures and will target all the boats in a bay or area and same again 18months later using a tinny and ferrying stuff back o a wharf. We and friends have found loose bolts on trim units and gearboxes where they have either been disturbed or lacked the brains to remove teh items - they can strand or kill someone. Boats have sunk because thieves have removed a battery or connection and then bilge pumps were inopperable.

You would be surprised how many people can actually see their boat from their house etc.

The you have the vandals or kids who think it is fun to cut half way through a mooring line to see what happens

Some marinas have gone to having a onsite guard as even cameras were not stopping the serious thieves but sleepy plod security can't be stuffed if he sees a moored boat getting done over unless it is on a marina mooring.

Seagull crap will take a while to get use to as well let alone the antifouling extra wear and tear from constantly moving on the water, dinghy stowage hassles and extra annodes.

Turn rant off

You can insure the crap out of it but it doesn't make up for the time it takes for repairs and teh not knowing what else the played with.

Please please use the stolen EPIRB as it will be one less scum out there.

Pel

PS worth specifically telling the water police as they will be not only checking expiry dated but also that they are registered in the future so it may get picked up that way from the sticker showing the wrong details?? Did it have the amsa sticker on it

Wish it was the older 121.5mhz eprib, but it was a newer 406mhz epirb.

Yes, it did have a amsa sticker on it. Hope they set it off, they will be picked up as it will come up stolen. Still can't beleive it happened. All I do was a quick trip to the loo and it was gone. Bloody idiots!
