rickb Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 Hey Fellas, Can you tell me what is the difference between a plough anchor and a manson plough, besides the price. Iam looking for an allround anchor for allnight fishing offshore. Cheers Rick.
pelican Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 (edited) Manson produced anchors that were reknowned by cruising sailors as good anchors in a variety of substrates. No sure if there were ever patents or if they invented them but the originals are super tough , reliable and had the right weight and attack angle to penerate. They were one of the few anchors in the early days that was tested for strength and therefore able to meet survey and insurance requirements. There is plenty of copies and plenty of good anchors but 100 times more crap as well. If it is to save your life or to be used as a lee shore anchor in a storm in sand buy a manson as your emergency anchor but if it is your everyday fishing anchor I don't bother putting the expensive one out with all the chain. Just lob out the cheap copy and if it drags pull it and reset it. When overnighting we put pot the good one with plenty of chain and a good rode as we will be asleep if shit happens and everything gets harder to do at night Edited November 28, 2008 by pelican
rickb Posted November 28, 2008 Author Posted November 28, 2008 Thanks Pelican, I appreciate your inputIwas thinking along the same line. But when I saw the main dealer in manson having the plough as well and looked the same,I though I would ask around. Cheers Rick.
