high_speed_metal
Im looking at going to the Hawkesbury this weekend for the first time. Looking to catch some small Jew to start the learning curve on them and would like to get into some Bass/EP as well. Of course anyone fishing there this weekend would be more than happy to have a flick with them. I will be going down EARLY Sat morn for a big drive around the system "Wisemans ferry, spencer, leets vale, lower macdonald" and so on.. I am shore based so will be walking a lot and will be taking lite gear for a test... Then I will go back down Sunday for a full day of what I hope to be rod bending action! Any tips on Lures to take and bait for through the day would be handy... Tides look to be like this. any hints will help me discover this syste Sat 06/12/2008 High 5:27am 1.25m Low 11:04am 0.69m High 5:15pm 1.39m Low 11:57pm 0.45m Sun 07/12/2008 High 6:22am 1.34m Low 12:14pm 0.67m High 6:18pm 1.35m Cheers Shannon
tide'n'knots
hi shannon, I fish a fair bit from a boat down that way and there are quite a few jew in the river at the moment but they tend to be on the small side. Dont forget to add about 3 hours at wisemans ferry to your tides. As for landbased spots there are plenty of rocks to fish from all the way along the river, many years ago I remember fishing from the public wharf at wisemans at night and catching a heap of small jew, nothing has probably changed and it could be worth a try, where there are small ones there are sometimes big ones also. the wharf is fairly lit up and that should attract something. Could even be small livies around the light? I have caught them from the wharf at spencer also, a mate got a 17lber one night there, but they arent all that prolific we spent a lot of jewless nights there too! The saving grace with the spencer wharf is that you can usually pick up bream or flathead if the jew arent there. You are likely to pick up bream from the rocky shorelines and sometimes they can be thumpers around the 3 pound mark or better. peeled hawkesbury prawns work a treat down there or a fresh slab bait just pinned in the end of the fillet. If you can figure out where to catch some poddy mullet, let me know will you, I am sure they will work well as some of the fish we have caught have them in their gut. tight lines. pete. Had a good drive around spencer and wisemans ferry today, found a nice spot at WF to pull up for a few hrs, had 2 live mullet out that were not touched in four hrs and got 3 little jew under 30cms on Hawkesbury prawn. interesting place but cut my trip down to one day. need a boat there. Your chances of catching good fish definately increase with a boat, at least you got a couple even if they were throw backs!
