jamesds
Not by me but, by Noel the guy in the picture at around 6am before he went to work! He usually catches trevally down there but this time he was unbelievably lucky. From what I gather he was only using light gear too, and was sitting on the railing of that fenced-off swimming area when it hooked up! I was fishing down there the other day, and if anything larger than a bream was biting I'd be concerned about it pulling me in the drink... Ha - if he looks confused about his new-found fame when you say hi, it's cos I didn't tell him I posted his picture. Tell him that Justin's friend James posted his Jewfish pic on Fishraider

andrew399
yeah i always see them swimming around the pool, only ever tried for them once with roosterman but will have to give them another crack, do you know if jewies are common there? I always thought it looked good, nice deep water and moorings and plenty of bait...

I always thought it looked good, nice deep water and moorings and plenty of bait... it would be a good spot for jew but you have to put in the time there is so much bait around the pool and out to the moorings [squid and yellowtail] im sure you will pick up a jew or even a king especially at night put out 2 rods 1 with live yakka the other freshly caught squid out into the deeper water and sit back and wait try and play the fish up onto the beach instead of the pool peter
jewgaffer
Pete good advice walking a decent fish into the little beach. We used to fish what I now know as Old Man's Hat as an alternative spot for getting bait and there are more often than not heaps of slimies and yellowtail there. I'm not sure if many members treat Old Man's Hat as being the good bait ground it is. I've caught top of the tide nightime jew in close off OMH when we used to anchor inside North Head. I haven't been out there for ages and I believe there is a marine park there somewhere but I don't know what area it applies to. Cheers jewgaffer
