squizzytaylor
The shimano button up shirts are good and light weight, I have a stack of Kokoda shirts which are about half the price but slightly heavier and dont breathe quite as well in summer, I have owned a columbia shirt and really thought that they were on par with the kokodas as they are also heavy. I also have a c-shirt which is made of rash vest type material and has long sleeves, very cool to wear and non restrictive, great for offshore. my favourite would be the kokodas for all round durability and pricing. gretsch
Columbia have a much lighter material available now. I have a couple and they are excellent. They breath well and have two big pockets with velcro tabs in which to keep your bits and peices. The older Columbias were made from a heavier cotton material which is good in the winter but too hot in the summer. olitay
Yeah the columbias are great, the newer ones are definitely more breathable and light weight. Heavily priced but last a long time.
jewgaffer
Hi Guys, the asked what i wanted for xmass and i thought a good sun safe fishing shirt would be good... now the vexing q is which ones are good and which ones sell due to branding etc... i know berkely and shimano do shirts as ive seen some of you guys wearing them... so what do you recommend and a basic $ value as well would be good to help in my decision making... dont post shops etc as its not allowed but pm is welcomed if somewhere has a good sale on... cheers....steve..... Interesting topic Steve !! I have been thinking about getting hold of a couple of good fishing shirts myself for ages now, but never got into buying one. Sometimes us fishermen get our priorities wrong and take the sun for granted. Wearing a good qualty UV shirt in the outdoors is pretty important when you think about it. It's quiet possible that, without paying an arm and a leg for a brand name, one would be able to buy a top fishing shirt for around forty dollars. I agree with you asking opinions from members as I think it best to get advice from someone who flooked a good brand at a fair price that has everything needed in a shirt made for fishing. Some fishing shirts are pretty costly to buy and as Squizzy Taylor suggests it looks at this point of time that the Kokoda brand, although seemingly a little on the heavy side is good value for money. It would be good to hear what members have to say about other brands particularly the imports you buy over the internet etc as with shirts you really only need to check the waist size if the quality is good. Cheers mate Jewgaffer Steve did you get those blue tradesmen's strides taken up ok and do they fit you better now? I have another new pair the same size you can also have just for a smile if you need a second pair as you rarely find quality like that in fishing pants and they have heaps of pockets which are deeper than a bookmakers bag. slinkymalinky
Columbia shirts mate. I have a few other brands (a Kokoda and a Shimano) and they are both cheap copies in both quality as well as price. The Columbia shirts I have are more comfortably, lighter, breezier and much more practical with the way they've design the pockets, roll up sleeve button tabs, loops, etc. Rooster, if you're worried they might make you look like a tosser do what I do and never iron them. Rest assured thought that with big boof heads like me wearing them, they don't have the 'Collins Street Fisherman' image that they used to. They cost more but they're worth it. glennmreid
i like using the gulp shirts. find them very light weight. i also have kokoda shirts, but the material is a bit heavier, and more suited to cooler days. the only thing i find wrong, particularly with the gulp shirts is the top pocket. when you bend over things fall out easily. last time i fished from the shore, i bent over and my mobile went in. only a few cms deep but enough to cost me a new phone. g.t.
Good topic. I've wanted one myself for some time now. What I really want to know is how you manage to go into a tackle store and actually walk out with a shirt? No matter what my intentions are when I walk into a store, I seem to spend every available penny on rods, reels, lures and other tackle . Let me know if there's any technique to counter my affliction... I'd really like a shirt!
Chris 55
IWJ being of man size build myself I ended up buying a no name shirt online after being annoyed by the lack of an available size from the "named brand"shirts I find the shirt light and roomy and at 1/2 to 1/3 the price

austwave
Hi All Ive been wearing the Kokoda's for year or more and dont find them too bad to wear. for $25 on special it was not hard to decide, I liked the look of the Team Daiwa - Columbia but the $75 is more than I pay for gear to go out in. I am commited to wear something as the adds on telly are true and a previous visit to the Melanoma unit is one I only want to do for a checkup
