glennmreid Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 some people might remember a post a few weeks ago about my Bermuda island Coral runabout. I was having issues as my boat weighed over 750 kg, and was on an unbraked trailer. Should've been on a braked trailer from the start. I am happy to report Mercury have come through and will be exchanging my unbraked trailer for a new braked trailer.
jewgaffer Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 That good news Chopper 75 The car will handle much better on braking now. Cheers jewgaffer
glennmreid Posted December 12, 2008 Author Posted December 12, 2008 looking forward to getting the new trailer. Now I will feel more comfortable knowing all is legal.
pelican Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 (edited) Glad they came to the party as someone should have. I know the result was good but were they good to deal with and didi your dealer stick up for you? Who did they reckon should have noticed it in the first place and how did it happen? Just a shame as there are heaps of people driving around and they never find out until an accident occurs and the insurers ignore their claim. Thankfully you noticed before any drama. glennmreid Posted December 12, 2008 Author Posted December 12, 2008 the dealer did absolutely nothing for me. thank god they are not a site sponsor. when i told the dealer the problem, they said they would contact mercury. basically mercury gave some figures on the basic hull, trailer & motor weight. the reponse from my dealer, well sorry we can't help you on this occassion. they left it at that. i had to contact mercury head office, and send a letter outlining my issues, and how this was an illegal set tup.mercury in the beginning were a bit defensive, but i am glad on this occasion that the little man won against the big marine company. you are right pel, there are alot of people with boats on trailers, which are a nasty accident waiting to happen. i'm not one of these people who just walk away. i fight to the end.

I bought the boat from this dealer.Never used this dealer for service of my boat. always have taken it to Hueys at Cowan. Lets just say the dealer is located in Dural. This experience has really left a bad taste in my mouth.
copafisher Posted December 13, 2008 Posted December 13, 2008 [Good to hears its sorted Chopper. My first and only boat purchase to date was an absolute nightmare, and this was from a firm who won best dealer from name brand boat manufacturer. I have never returned to them at Toronto as these guys were just such idiots. How they won awards I never know. The boats been good, I use Huey now. Good setup/dealer provides confidence in boat/product. Good fishing from now on, cheers Copa

Next boat service, definately from Huey.
austwave Posted December 13, 2008 Posted December 13, 2008 (edited) My boat was probably under the 750kg mark when ordered but it was intended to travel quite a few miles each year ie Sydney Eden trips so I asked up front for a braked trailer for my own piece of mind as I believe some dealers will definatelly give the minumum as its a business they are in, but having said that they must comply with the RTA rules and they are the people who register it. Good Result, It should not be that hard Edited December 13, 2008 by Austwave

Good Result, It should not be that hard I bought my boat as a BMT package(Boat, Motor , trailer), so I wasn't given a choice of a trailer, and trusted my dealer. Unfortunately, the weights some people quote are only a basic hull. I was told my boat, trailer, motor weighed in at 702kg. 280kg of this was the hull, and only the basic hull weight. when you add cabling, controls, gauges, battery when road ready, it easily went over the 750kg mark. Unfortunately, alot of people don't think about that. In the end, a great result for me. Just like you, if I was given the option at the beginning I would've asked for a braked trailer.
