Hi Raiders long time reader first time post

Myself and a friend would taking our blue water fishing a little more seriously and was wondering how other raiders keep track of there trips do you record it in a log book as such? And what type of info do you pencil in. Any info would be great to get us started.

Imagine what we could achieve if everybody donated copies of their log books, get all the data aggregated and put it online for everyone to see and analyse. It would be a treasure trove - imagine the possibilities! As a software developer and (budding) fisherman that sort of project would excite me.... I can but dream !

Water temp

Tides

Moon phase

Wind direction

Barometer

Time of day and date

Current(which direction,north or south)

Gps Co-ordinates of positive hook ups

Species encounterd

funny you mention the fishing log ,wasnt that funny for me ,i havent been writting or updating my fishing log for a year or so,my daughter waddles into the computer room, and says daw,daw while pointing to the bookshelf,i say what are you trying to say doll, she says daw daw draw,oh you want to draw ,

she is pointing to my fishing log

what the

i open the book to find crayon and pencil drawing s all over the book ,ripped out pages and tears like only a 2 yr old can do

got to love em

the stuff i put in was tide ,moon ,location, weather, including sea conditions, technique and times

it did get a bit tedious ,so thats why i slaked off ,i reckon if you a program it would be perfect ,say it had the tides and moon already in there as that takes a while to scribble

Hah, the little blighter!

Yeah, I reckon making it as easy as possible to enter the info would be a good start. If it's painful nobody will use it. Start off with entering time and location. Moon phase, tides, weather etc can be worked out from there. It'll start getting useful after a few hundred log entries and we can extract meaningful trends and offer drilldown views, overlays on Google maps 'hotspot of the month' etc.

There's a stack of different programs on the net that you can download (some free, some not) which takes out the hard work.

It's definitely got me better fish and I've only been doing it for around 2 years.
