whatawag
Hi Raiders - been an avid reader of this great site for some time now but first time post. Thinking about trying the Lane Cove River over the holidays and was just wondering what the latest view is in regard to eating fish caught from this waterway. Seems to be some past posts that don't recommend it. Also, any recommendations for boat ramps in the area to launch a 4.45m tinny ? Cheers ! braddles
As for eating fish... its cleaned up alot.... ive been fishing there for years and usually let go everything... my recent jew that i got in the LCR , check the reports, i kept and ate. I consider it safe if your not doing it everyday... As for boat ramps... theres a boat ramp near st josephs college which is just around the corner from fig tree bridge.. gregg.michael
Hey whatawag, I live on the Lane Cove River and whilst I fish the river I do not make a habit of eating my catch. The remediation at Rhodes peninsula this year will have helped reduce the dioxin levels. However this action was decades overdue and unfortunately the reality is that even fish east of the harbour bridge are higher in contaminants than healthy fish. I would avoid eating anything from the Parramatta or Lane Cove rivers, and would restrict the amount of fish eaten which have been caught from anywhere inside the harbour. It hasn't stopped me enjoying my sport at all to be honest. Hope you still decide to fish LCR. It is a beautiful corner of the earth with some great fishing locations along its length. Cheers, Mike
nargse1
i fish the LCR quiet a bit but have never eaten the fish from there. i have pulled some pretty deformed looking fish out of there but then again ive done the same in alot of other places too. i know a few people who eat the fish out of there and are fine (kinda) nah really they say its all good. i guess fish do travel so.... i wouldnt be feeding the kids though just incase. good luck and might see you down there. damien
