james7 Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 The sky looked a bit threatning as we headed out last week just before Christmas. The "skipper", Pick-A-Box Syd had invited a few mates along, Steve, Gary and a bloke from Iceland who couldn't speak English. Gary and the "Viking" were a bit uncomfortable up front and it wasn't long before there was a constant burley trail (followed by some moans). The sun eventually came out and Steve, Syd and myself started bringing up some nice flatties. Meanwhile, the other two just bought up "burley" and the odd jacket. Syd also managed a nice fat salmon which has been salted for the SWR trip next week. With two queasy customers up front, we decided it was only fair to head for some calmer water to give them some relief. Anyway, the jackets had moved in, so it was time to get away from them with at least a couple of rigs intact. It was beautiful and calm in close to the sandhills. After a nice lunch, and some smiles (of relief?) appearing on the faces of the two "burley boys", we headed back to the ramp. On the way in we stopped to get a few photos. Steve with a good flattie and tailor Syd and his fat salmon. Great bunch of blokes and a top day! Cheers Peter
Yarraone Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 Some great fish there guy's .. Well done.. I hope to get amoungst it very soon
arpie Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 Hi Peter I really feel for the sea sick guys - that is my modus operandi too! At least I normally feel fine for an hour or two after getting rid of it, (free burley) then can resume fishing! You say you salt your salmon down for SWR - Do you just take a thin fillet off both sides & salt it, or a full fillet? They are usually soooo thick that the hook disappears into the strip anyway .... Nice haul of fish there! Cheers Roberta

We'll hopefully use them at SWR if we manage to get out over the bar and do some reef fishing offshore. It's a shame we're not going to be up there at the same time. We could have had a beach fishing session. SWR is one of my favourite beach fishing places because it's such a beautiful spot I usually don't mind if I don't catch anything. Cheers Peter
Flatty.Fan686 Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 What a great mixed bag there. Im always like the 2 guys up front when i go outside the heads. Keep up the good work. Cheers , Rhys.
arpie Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 I'll be up there the last 10 days of Feb, staying at the Gaol campgrounds. Hope to hit some bass rivers & SW rivers too - would appreciate some tips on where to fish! Have fished opposite the boat ramp on the river (where the yachts are) & round behind there, that is about it so far! Went offshore briefly last year in the yak, but won't be doing that again, I reckon! Cheerio Roberta
