Lasty Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 I put some 20lb mono on a Sienna 4000 series reel (with a view to chasing kingies) and the line just seems to be too big for the reel. Has anyone else thought this?
caranx Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 (edited) 20lb is 9kg line....If you put 20lb braid on it you would be fine instead of mono. It would fit on better and cast a lot better. Edited December 31, 2008 by caranx
high_speed_metal Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 I have 20lb Iron Stream on my 4000 TD SOL and its fine, The Dia is only 0.32 and I fit about 280yrds on the reel. It does not effect my casting at all. Next time you go to the shop have a look at the Dia of the line and if you pay a little more you will have a good outcome.
stevefish Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 if you run 7-10 pounds of drag through a 4000 series reel it is working pretty hard from the handle to the drag and everywhere in between. if you dont run that much pressure go down a line class. any reason not to use braid, as 14 pound braid will be similar strength and be much better on the spool and cast further.
Lasty Posted January 2, 2009 Author Posted January 2, 2009 any reason not to use braid, as 14 pound braid will be similar strength and be much better on the spool and cast further. Because I have grown up using mono and probably as my son describes me, I'm a tight scab!
rockfisherman Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 20lb braid on a 4000 size reel is to much (in fireline), with some mono backing you'll get 125 yds or what ever it is on nicley on to a 4000 size reel. albert
