Hi Guys

Happy new year

Went for a fish to tomaree head south break wall for absolute nothing could not even lose a bait.

Caught several yellow tail and slimies and sent them down for not even a touch .

This is my first time to th port and very disappointed with the quality and quanity of fish at the port.

God help sydney harbour if we get half the marine parks they have .

:05:

hopefully going out tomorrow any tips would be greatly appreciated

Richard, if you have a boat, Broughton Island (watch out for the reserve!) is good for snaps and kings. If land based, the headlands and rock platforms on the open ocean side go well.

Good luck.

would it be safe to head out there on a 4.55 quinny with 40 merc on the back? or think it would be a little far?

Mate I have seen boats of this size out there but it's a freaking long run if a southerly hits when your up at Broughton. NOt the nicest of bars either on a solid run out tide in a smallish boat. Iv'e had green waves land on the front deck of my boat on the run out to the islands.

Just make sure you pick your days and always keep an eye on the weather and an ear on the radio if you do take it on but in the end it's up to you and your own confidence in your driving and boat capabilities. Best bet would be to start off on shorter trips to the closer ones first.

Wise advice Greg.

Flattyslayer, if you do chance it on a good day and head up there, just be prepared to wait it out if the wind picks up. There a good boat havens there and you can shelter from most directions in need.

Take some charts along as there are sanctuaries and restricted spots all around the island.

I found on a reasonable day I can get from Lemon Tree to Broughton in 40 minutes in a 5m quinnie cuddy cab 70hp on it.

mate I wouldnt have thought you need to go as far as broughton (Think its around 20km from memory) - there is good fishing on the islands just out of the heads (watch the marine park) - the washy areas are good for spinning metals or floating baits down the walls for snapper.

Like Greg says I have seen some pretty horrible weather and had some very slow runs back from Broughton once that Southerly picks up and we are in a 24 foot boat... turns into a bit of a washing machine in the shallow water with waves rebounding off the islands. wouldnt want to be in it in a 5m quinny.
