jenno64
Had fatherly duties early on so I decided to hit the Cooks River at 11am to check out some spots. Tried some live poddies under the airport bridge in the hope of a jew but was being constantly buzzed by a one ski boat. Had one hit that crushed the poddy and left it dead but not much else. I laso had to navigate around half a dozen illegal crab nets tied to coke or water bottles. After trying some sps around the pylons, decided to head up river with the beginning of the run in. Scored a 32cm bream on the flats and then tried the next bridge for nothing. After that I sussed out some very fishy water with flats of 3' and holes up to 16' deep that were only 20m in diameter. Found a few more unmarked crab nets and pulled one up to find a corker of a muddy in it. Must have been 1.5kg. Called the fisheries to report the %^&$heads. Got caught up in a another and another muddy comes up. In one stretch I nailed half a dozen bream around 30cm and 2 flatties that went 46 and 53cm. One engulfed the SX40 and bled as I retrieved the lure so I offered it to a guy fishing from the bank as it would't revive. Every bridge I found holes of 9-12' and some very fishy water. Here are some pics from the day. Not bad for the middle of the day and a NE blowing hard. Feels funny not taking home a feed but I must have landed over 20 fish in 3 hours so the sport was worth it! jenno64
Hey Pelican, I know what you're saying but after finding the 16th net, again in the main channels under bridge pylons I thought these people have no regard for anyone else using the waterway. iI hope the botulism got them even if the fisheries inspectors didn't
Jewhunter
Sounds like a nice Cooks trip mate with plenty of good fish released. Well done for doing things the right way & contacting fisheries. I reckon if somebody wants to eat a 1kg Cooks mud crab then they will get what they deserve. Cheers, Grant.
