fisho1990 Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 after a bit of complaining and my girlfriend has agreed to spend up to 500 dollars for a new reel for my birthday, just after some advice on a nice reel to go on a shimano snapper raider. i was looking at a sustain 400 or a twinpower for chucking soft plastics at bigger fish than i normally chase with these lures such as snapper jews and kings .. any suggestions on a reel ? (prefrably shimano) cheers

You have specified the snapper raider as your rod of choice, what other rods would raiders suggest. Steve
slinkymalinky Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Any 4000 size Shimano with a full metal body will do the job admirably from a Stradic to a Stella. Since it's a present get the bet one you can afford. Cheers, Slinky
Red Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 I agree with Slinky. Any decent Shimano will do the job. A 4000 Stradic will do the job nicely and you will have lots of change for braid, jig heads and plastics. I had a 3000 Stradic for SP reds and it more than did the job before upgrading to a swanky 3000 sized Daiwa. I think with any plastics combo the good old rule applies....the lighter the better. Hope you enjoy the snapper challenge. Cheers Red
fisherboy Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 you could try the aspire it is the next one up from the tiwn power and the one under the fireblood and will cost around the $450 depends where u get it from i was having a look and it a couple of days a go and when i was trying to swhich the handles over from left to right it wastent screwing in but then i found that u hade to change the thread on the handle for it to work on the right side. (does anyone know why u would want to have that) but a stradict or a twin power will do nicely for what u are looking at using it for. fisherboy
olitay Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Hey mate, i have a 4000 Stradic and rate it very highlty, value for money they are are a top reel, like Red said you will have change for some lures with 500, and you will not be disappointed.
