Gulps & Slams

Hi guys

I know that you are not supposed to mix your 'older' sps in one bag due to the leaching of colours (or even putting into plastic containers as they can melt the container! :1yikes: )

What about Gulps & Slams? Being biodegradable & less toxic to plastic ...... would you be able to mix different colours?

I am just trying to cut down on the number of bags & stuff I take out on the yak! Plus those damn zip bags leak & next time you go to use them, the lures (gulp in particular) have become bullets! :ranting2:

I am thinking of putting a mix into a small 'tupperware' or similar container that has a good seal around the lid.

Last time i went out in a Boat using SPs we had like a gulp container with the liquard in it, im not sure if you buy those with the plastics in them or weather you just put what u like in them. Might be worth checking them out at a Tackle Shop.

Thanks for that Cory - those round Gulp containers leak even worse than the zip bags!! They only come with the one style of sp in them. They are now being put out in a really weird shaped container which I haven't purchased yet!

I am pretty sure I will be able to mix them, so just want to see if anyone else was doing it already with no ill effect to the sps?

CHeerio & see ya :1prop:

Hi Roberta,

I don't know about mixing them but these days I empty open packets of gulp into a tupperware container with just the juice out of the packets. So far the colours don't seem to run and they stay in top 'squishy' condition. Heaps better than everything in my tackle box smelling like something the cat dragged in a month ago.

The other thing I was thinking of using was one of those 'dry bags' that you can get.

I don't think there's a perfect solution. The best is to just fish so much that you never have left overs :biggrin2:

Thanks SLinky!

And it does stink, too, eh?? :1yikes:

Seems a lot of folk are mixing the GUlps - one buddy has pinched his wife's gherkin container (with built in strainer) so that he just pulls all the lures out of the mixture & chooses one, instead of having to go diving in with hands & wrists for it!!

i find using small screwtop microwave containers are great - I've had about a packet and a half worth of gulp turn into bullets unexpectedly from the default ziplock bags breaking on me.

I've tried using the stiff plastics but have had no results. Do you reckon they are still worth keeping or should i just give them the slip

Hi Roberta,

I have mixed the Gulp and Slams together in 1 container.

If you want the white Slams to stay white, dont mix them in the browny Gulp juice. The White Slam will become stained. The Pumpkin Seed coloured Slams were fine for obvious reasons.

Thanks for that, Jeff & Dave

I fear your 'bullets' are stuffed, Dave, like my 2 packets were! :ranting2: I had sealed the pack too. I have noticed that they give you hardly any juice in the sealed packets any more!

Hi Roberta

I don't think there is a problem mixing them. I know Slam! has a mixed bag of lures you can buy, and I have been storing my odd Gulps in an old Gulp Alive container. I have had no dramas with leakage at all? What I did (when I first opened the bucket) was carefully tear the sealing lid away from the edges without removing it. I don't know if that was of any benefit, but I have had it upside down :mad3: in my tackle bag and it didn't leak :biggrin2:

Cheers

Ian
